Best set of $100 speakers?

I am looking for a good set of $100 speakers for my desktop. I had an ok set but those decided to quit after something like 12 years. I've been limping along on a set of cheap OEM speakers I dug out of downstairs but the sound quality is well, bad. Any suggestions? I'd like to keep the price below $100 if at all possible. But no more than $110.

how do these compare against say a 2.1 Klipsch Promedia system?

it should destroy a set of klipsh 2.1's . the klipshs have a lot of processed sound to them. they sound great but those daytons or the pioneers should be much more natural and louder.

i would go with the dayton pair with the amp for $60. that is a steal. should sound similar to the pioneers, if not a bit better.

Ditto on the Pioneer speakers. I have a set in my workshop that only play moderately loud, but they will take quite a bit of volume before clipping, and sound great.

the pioneer speakers are worth about 150 for 50 bucks the price is great. here is a very good companion amp. it uses usb and has 2 sub outs

I know you are a bit over budget about 50 plus 99 total around 149 .

but the amp has a decent dac and 2 sub outs. I got one laying around somewhere. I did a write up on the partsexpress site a year ago.

The Dayton speakers (and the Pioneer to a lesser extent) with the T-amp will lack low-end bass compared to the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1. However, the Dayton speakers should produce great music for the money if you are willing to have the speaker not hit the low notes and not make you feel it in your chest.

The Klipsch Promedia 2.1 have strength in volume. They will gladly power a house party and have a some decent bass kick (although it isn't the deepest base that rattles your gut). The T-amp powered & sub-less solutions above just don't have this capability. While the Klipsch Promedia speakers can play music, if you listen closely to voices and natural instruments, the timbre just isn't right. I've found that my Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers don't give me the "musician in the room with me" feel that my main stereo system gives me, although to be fair, computer speakers at this budget rarely can achieve this.

he has an easy upgrade path that is more integrated then the lei amp choice.

I built a few dozen better 2.1 systems. the real key is the sub. those pioneer speakers can not be matched at a 125 dollar to 150 dollar price point if the op fills in bass at 80 to 120 hz.

I would also go bookshelf speakers & amp but that's just me. Having more components gets a bit messy tho, & takes up more space.

For something easy/compact(/prebuilt) @ $100 I would seriously consider the creative gigaworks T40'shttp://redirect.anandtech.com/r?url...sXPort-Technolgy/dp/B001S14DYO&user=u00000687. As above; lacking in sub-bass, but still very nice (easily enough bass for normal music & gaming).

so many choices indeed... ive been so used to having a sub-woofer and i haven't heard any decent speakers without it so im torn. the space for bookshelf speakers and amp isn't an issue for me as long as they're not too big.

Looks aside the Daytons are no way better than the $50 Pioneers. I have them both right next to me.

Whatever you do, don't fall for the 5.1 craze .. pretty much any 2.1 system at ~ $100 will sound pretty decent assuming you aren't accustomed to higher end equipment.

Not even including the woofer, just do the math and tell me what you think will sound better:

$100/2 speakers = $50 each speaker
$100/5 speakers = $20 each speaker

No matter how many $20 speakers you kept adding, they would never match the sound clarity from just 2x speakers of twice the quality up front.

yeah for 50 bucks the pioneers are outstanding.

just add a sub for 100hz and lower. very hard system to beat.

Used set of Klipsch ProMedia 2.1s? I can usually pick them up off CL for ~$60 (and non-working ones for ~$20 that are usually easy to fix).
