For my last 3 phones, I used BestSkinsEver skins. I guess you could say there's minimal orange peel, but it's absolutely invisible when the screen is on. They used to be a little sticky, but they seem much smoother now.

Just because I'm cheap, and I saw someone recommend it, I tried a Skinomi skin. Barely over $5 shipped from Amazon for my Verizon Galaxy Nexus. (Or any GN for that matter) Went on great, minimal orange peel, and cured to almost no bubbles at all in about 12 hours. Looks and feels great. Color me impressed!

We are going to have to disagree. I'm not taking a chance with a ~$500 device. Gorilla glass might be better than regular glass, but my experience with standard tempered glass is that if you put it in a bag with a bunch of sand from a florida beach and shake it for a while, and while you won't have real scratches, it won't look as good as it did before you put it in. I'm not taking a chance...

My wife doesn't use a case or any kind of screen protector and she throws her phone in her purse and I can tell you that they look trashed in a matter of months. By the end of a year, they look like someone hauled them through a mission in Iraq. The screens are scratched, the black plate is worn, the metal bezel is covered in scratches and sometimes even the carrier logo is half worn away.

You can think that I'm crazy or wasting money, but I'll keep buying screen protectors and using cases, and some day when my wife pulls a phone out of her purse after ~6 moths of jangling around in there and she shows it to me and looks brand new, then I'll rethink my strategy. :) As far as the screen protector affecting the image quality, I'm a bit obsessive about these things and I can tell you that if you saw my phone, you'd have a hard time knowing that I have a screen protector on it.

I agree with your assessment but I don't use them because I'm willing to let the phone get beat up. Generally by the time I sell the phone the resale value is so low it doesn't really matter.

I got the Zagg one for my Galaxy S2X.

Pretty satisfied with it, looks like an excellent screen protector.

Zagg is HORRIBLE. Don't do it... orange peel beyond your imagination. The wet apply protectors are much easier to apply than the dry applications.. but they don't look as good... but better a well applied screen protector that's not the best, than a poorly applied screen protector that looks awesome.

I recommend Skinomi for the wet applied... looks way better than Zagg... or Steinheil ultra if you want the absolute best, but very hard to properly apply protector.

Well first it's too late and second, no orange tint in my screen. Looks perfect.

whoops, forgot about that lol.

Well i guess its suspect to cracks, its basically scratch proof though. Not like a screen protector would be able to prevent that.

I actually prefer a glass phone because it is scratch resistant, but then its also more shatter prone. Since you're more likely to scratch than shatter, I prefer the former. Apple also replaces a shattered iPhone under its 1yr warranty, even if its accidental. You can get apple care and extend it another 2yrs.

gorilla glass and other are good enough where i can trust that they wont scratch. There's nothing I hate more than seeing my friends screens covered up with horrible screen protectors. Completely ruins the phone IMO. As beautiful as my SAMOLED screen is, a lesser display without a screen cover looks better than that with a cover.

I also feel the same way about huge ballistic cases. Why buy a slim sleek phone if your going to have a huge case. It takes away from what the phone is intended to be.

GG may be "good enough", but its also important to note that GG is scratch resistant, not scratch proof.

Coming from Captivate and I didn't use a protector or case on that one. THe screen is still pretty pristine, but I think if I put it next to a brand new one i might be able to notice a difference with close inspection.

I just know these SAMOLED screens are slightly different and there have been a couple of people on xda forums who claim they have scratches. I dunno, it could just be schills from the screen protector companies trying to make gnex owners want to buy protectors. I'd rather use without a protector as I'm generally against them.

I think something to be aware of that the oleo-phobic coating can wear out. I noticed that when I took my screen protector off my iPhone, the cutouts for the front camera and ear piece were worn out. The glass of where the protector covered the screen was still pristine.

Orange peel doesn't refer to the tint.. it refers to the texture btw. But glad you're happy, thats all that matters.

I'm not sure I understand how the 1st sentence is related to the latter two. How were the cutouts worn out? By cutouts do you mean the parts of the protector where they cut away the plastic so it doesn't cover the front camera? How can that part get worn out if it's just empty space?

The oleo-phobic coating's only purpose is to reduce smudges on the surface of the screen protector right? It doesn't actually protect the phone from anything oil related (glass won't be damaged by oil as far as i know).

Is it better than BestSkinsEver? I've had several of those with great results.

I had a skinomi on my palm pixi and just applied one to my new rezound 10 minutes ago.

I took a look at my old pixi one more time to make sure i wanted to put a protector on the new phone and the skinomi looked perfect still! I've never used ZAGG or other protectors but the skins are 10 bucks and seem to work great. I'll let you know how it looks on the bigger screen in a day or two when its dried completely.

I should have been more clear. The glass that is not protected because of the cutouts has a worn down oleo-phobic coating. In other words, the exposed glass gets worn.

The coating is only there to resist grease, correct, but what I'm sayin is that with no coating, the grease gums up the screen hardcore. Areas of my iPhone where the coating is gone, the grease is very difficult to wipe away. There was basically an outline of the cutouts on the screen after I removed the screen protector.

I've used Zagg Invisibleshield protectors on everything from digital cameras to smart phones to my Nintendo DS.

Pros:
- Lifetime warranty. After a few months just order a new one and send them your old one You'll be surprised how yellow and dirty it looks after you remove it.

- Pretty damned scratch resistant. I've taken keys to my Nexus One's screen and done striking motions. No problem. *See con

- Can't crack because the plastic is not brittle. *See con

Cons:
- Expensive!

- Not thin. The reason it protects so well is it's a pretty thick type of jelly type of plastic. This changes the display (blocks a lot of light) and changes the interaction. It takes a while to get used to how much stickier the screen is. Playing games, doing swipes, etc all feel different.

- Like I previously mentioned, the display is not as clear with the Invisible Shield as it is with a thinner, "crisp"-er type of plastic protector.

I used Zagg until I saw a YouTube video they did on Gorilla Glass where they dropped a phone on asphalt and showed it got scratched. But if you watched carefully the guy leaned on the phone and twisted it against the ground as he "picked it up"....extremely deceptive. I got a Skinomi for my TouchPad instead (same product).

but essentially XO SKins is the same type of jelly stuff like Zagg right? I've used Bodyguardz and Zagg, and Bodyguardz is much better with the orange peel effect, but honestly it's the same crap in the end.
