I have to disagree 100%. This movie is totally underrated for special effects. Name one movie that has better integrated CGI baddies..they are seamless, it's quite amazing. The cheesy feel is why most north americans hate it, and it is such a massive hit in europe. It's basically a parody of well, america? Guess you could say that.

Actually, the main reason I dislike it is that it is a horrible adaptation of an excellent book.

Yet another vote for Forbidden Planet
Omega Man is one of Heston's better films IMO.
How 'bout the original War of the Worlds? It has a great storyline and the special effects still hold up even to this day.
