Nina Gordon -Tonight and the Rest of My Life
Seal - A Prayer for the Dying
I Don't Want To Wait - Paula Cole
Sting - Fields of Gold - It's Probably me
Melanie - Lay Down

I usually really don't like how Amy sounds at all. I think her singing is painful. But I actually did enjoy that video, once. Thanks for posting it. Anyone who liked that video, you might like Portishead.

A lot of other good suggestions here I wish I had thought of first. Also a lot that aren't sad, melancholy, or beautiful.

Oh, and I hate Johnny Cash's version of Hurt, though I think his version of Rusty Cage is far superior to the original.

A few more I thought of.

Magnetic Fields - All My Little Words
Johnny Cash - Cry, Cry, Cry
Fiona Apple - Never is a Promise

when did you land Lifer status?

Anyone mention:

Bittersweet Symphony by the Verve?
My Sacrifice by Creed?
Higher by Creed?
Be Like That by Three Doors Down

X Japan - Tears
X Japan - Forever Love
... all their other ballads

Definitely some sad songs, especially if you don't understand Japanese and then realize that the one speaking part in Forever Love was one of the band members speaking about his love for his father as he came home one day as a kid and found that his father hung himself (note that this part's in English).

Just to list some random ones....

Pink Floyd- Marooned
Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water
Simon & Garfunkel - Sound of Silence
The Beach Boys - Caroline, No
The Beatles - While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Hallelujah - Jeff Buckly
Was actually a Leonard Cohen track, but Jeff has a better voice.

Also covered by Rufus Wainwright, which is the version I personally prefer.

I might have to look into that...

I do believe that's the version that was used in Shrek, so if you've seen the movie, you probably heard it.
