Chrono Trigger - Game is just beautiful. Combat system is unique, the music is perfect.

Secret of Mana - One of my first RPGs. I put sooooo many hours into this game. Also fun to have a friend grab a controller and get in on the action with you.

Final Fantasy 3(6) - You cared about every character in the game, even though there were a metric f*ckton of em. The Opera Scene? Nuff said.

Xenogears - Prolly my true favorite. Elegantly dealed with theology, human nature, philosophy. The combat system is the best yet, imo. The story was perfectly pieced together. Plenty of side quests to do. The boss battle was creative in the way you could weaken him. The cast of characters really awed me. Who didn't want to be Grahf or Id when they played?

Secret of Mana was a lot of fun, especially with the multi tap, but Final Fantasy 6 or 3, depending on what you want to call it, is the best RPG I have ever played.

I spent more time on that game than any other, except for maybe War2 online. I must have played through the game 5 or 6 times, plus finished it with different characters missing just to see a couple seconds worth of different cut scene endings. I slept at the inn for hours at a time to get Shadows cutscenes also.

Chrono Trigger, hands down.

Although, if Morrowind had developed a story line farther, it would be the best one. So open ended, too much almost, but a beautiful game that could have had lots of potential.

Agreed. The only game that came close to being more fun was Rifts, I've played the whitewolf games Vampire, etc. but you have to have a REALLY good GM ours died and nobody could run it as well so the game died too.

So many.... Chrono Trigger and FF3. I was addicted to Diablo 2, but that's not all that great, just addicting if that makes any sense.

Book and Dice (Pen and Paper) : Shadowrun

Console : .... ChronoTrigger, Final Fantasy Series, Harvest Moon

PC: Fallout1+2, Planescape, Ultima VII (with Forge of Virtue, Serpent Isle), Morrowind (with expansions), NWN, Deus Ex

MMORPG: Don't play 'em.

Edit: Forgot Harvest Moon =)

I honestly enjoyed Rifts more than D&D because you can start off with a really powerful character and also Rifts is so diverse and more along the Sci-Fi theme.

I know exactly what you mean!. Same thing for the pointless D2 addiction, even though it wasn't that good at all.

My fave RPG's:

1. Final Fantay VI (3 US)
1. FF VII (it's a two way tie, ok? 😉)
3. Chrono Cross
4. Chrono Trigger

then a bunch are all crammed in together:

FF IV (2 US), Secret of Mana, FF X

lesser favourites:

Xenosaga, Suikoden 3, Dragon Warrior 3, FF 1, Vagrant Story

Never played any console RPG's (except for Dragon Warrior. Which was fun, but not a spectacular RPG).

My vote goes for Ultima VII. Every other seems too linear. In Ultima I would spend days just learning
the daily routines of the people in Brtain, and follow all the sub-quests. What was cool is that they didn't
feel like sub-quests. Hmmm, I guess it's hard to describe 😀

FF3 is still excelent on a SNES emulator. My favourite on PC is still Torment.
I guess I'll wait ten years for a PS2 emulator on PC and get FFX and FFX-2 then.

Fallout 1&2.

I liked the FF series and Chrono Trigger as well, but IMO none of them built up the mood the way Fallout did.

Here are my three;

Fallout II: Post Apocalyptic games own me big time. My first introduction into turn based RPGs, and I love it. I love the dry humour used throughout the game, and the futuristic but somewhat archaic setting. Great character interactions.

Baldurs Gate II: Simply Amazing. Playing it now, its just so deep, its great. Could use better graphics, a little bit small perhaps. Its sucking all my time away, which is bad cause its exam time! :/

Deus Ex: I know, not really a true RPG. However I'm a huge sucker for conspiracy stories, and this one happened to be especially good. Horrible combat systems though.
