Best Routing Software?

I just got DSL and I've been looking through the forums to find some info on good software routing. I've seen people mention SyGate, WinGate, WinProxy, and Fat Pipe. I'm currently using NAT with WinGate. It is working ok for most web browsing, but it is giving me trouble with my Shoutcast server, IRC, and a couple other things. I currently have the modem going into a computer sharing the connection to 2 other computers through a hub. I'm not using any proxies with WinGate, but I think it's trying to filter out too much. Can someone point me to a good set of routing tools?

well, other than a router or win2k server? i would say wingate is your best choice. if you catch one on sale, you can get a netgear router for about 50 bucks or so....

I use to use Sygate and really liked it till I bought a router. If I was you and had the money I would sell the Hub and buy a Netgear RT314 Router. You can hook up to 4 PCs with it. If you look around you can probably find a good deal on one. I seen them in Sundays add at Best Buy for $69.00 after a mail in rebate I think it was. If your going towards software I again liked Syagte. But remember you have to leave the main PC (server) running (on)for the other PCs to get out to the internet.

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that I'm using DSL with a USB modem. I saw someone mention that I could ask my ISP for a regular RJ-45 modem. I'll try that, but until I get one, if I even can, I'm stuck with this and software routing. Thanks for the suggestions.

Sygate gets two thubs up from me. Works great! You can download an eval and see how it works for you.

Senjin,

Yelp your right. Im trying to find a way to fix my faterinlaws PC. He has the same setup. Which sucks using USB for DSL and trying to find a way for PC sharing.

Good Luck!

Are there any performance advantages in running Sygate over the other routing software? I just got my ICS from win98se to work, and wondering if it's worth switching to another ICS network through Sygate.

i use a nat router with my cable connection. it's called WinRoute. honestly, i think its excellent. built it in nat router, dhcp server, and dns forwarder. the dhcp server is great because it takes only 2 minutes to set up, and all comps on your network just have to obtain ip. you also get the benefits of using a nat router (ie. u don't have to config all your apps like you do when using a proxy)

great software

They have Sygate at Fry's Electronics for $9. Looks like a year-round price! Bought myself one instead of a router since I will only need internet sharing for 3 months.
