I feel the Stones and the Doors deserve to be up there more than Zeppelin or Floyd

Zeppelin has single handedly sold more albums that the Stones and the Doors combined.

So what? Does that mean they are better?

N*Sync has sold like 5 times more than zeppelin, what does that tell you?
I could name several poppy rock bands that have sold more than Zeppelin.

I completely agree that sales does not equal quality.

There are 14 million Vanilla Ice albums out there and I bet you couldn't find one person who would admit to owning one.

Talk about over rated. Those hacks didn't even have the good sense to stay defunct!

I did'nt want to be the first to say it but every song is the exact same.... Try Doobie Bros if you want underrated but NOT boston.

I can't take this poll seriously without the Rolling Stones as a choice. I do not consider Pink Floyd as one of the top fifty rock bands, and I tend to think Led Zeppelin is not a credible choice either.

I'd agree Rush should have been in there, but I can't pop in a Stones album (or albums...mmm, mp3 CD player!) and listen to it. I can pop off a dozen bands that that works well with, but not them.
And c'mon, any group that could make Tea for One, Stairway, Carouselambra, In My Time of Dying, and No Quarter just plain rules over all others. I know many people don't agree on those songs, but how many people simply don't like Zep? Not many, IME.

Note: on my current playlist:
AC/DC: 13 songs
Alan Parsons Project: 21 songs (Tales of Mystery and Imagination and Turn of a Friendly Card)
Alice in Chains 21 songs (Dirt, SAP, and single selections)
JCS: 21 songs (all but John 19:41)
Led Zeppelin: 23 songs, and I need to add a few
Metallica: 20 songs (Load and the better part black album mostly)
Ozzy: 19 songs, largely due to studio and live recordings
Pink Floyd: 22 items, 25 songs separating all parts of Dark Side, and even more if The Wall weren't just 2 MP3s.
Queenryche: 21 songs (Promised Land, and the better parts of Empire, Rage for order, and The Warning)
Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow: 14 songs
...all other groups or artists have 13 or fewer.

And for the record:

The Beatles = Best Band Ever.

I would have to say the beatles might have been influential to alot of bands... hell they still are but they can't hold a candle to Led Zepplin either in guitar licks or overall replayability.

what there's no Who fans?

where's the stones?!?!?!?!? :disgust:

edit: For the record, I voted the beatles out of those 3 bands. It was a close call between them and Floyd. I also love Zepp but they are easily the least talented of the three.

basically with the beatles you have to trash everything before revolver.
Dude, did you ever hear Rubber Soul? Even Help has good stuff on it.

While I would agree with you regarding the guitar, I can't say that I do about replayability.

I find myself listening to my Beatles records a LOT more than Zeppelin.

And FWIW, John, Paul and George were some very talented musicians and came up with some GREAT guitar stuff, but comparing anybody's talent on the guitar to Jimmy Page's is going to be a tough battle to win. 😀

Take this with a grain of salt because it is my OPINION and I am not trying to start an argument, but I think that Jimmy Page is a guitar wanker. I really dont care if he could belt out solos on double guitars and all if I don't like the licks. The beauty of George Harrison was he practiced a lot of restraint not to step over the music will crazy solos. But hell, the dude gave us some of the greatest rock licks in history. Much more than LZ IMHO.

I agree. George's guitar playing is very underrated. And his vocal harmonies.

He is a wanker but a great one....I agree about Harrison though. It's not even close. Most people here probably wont agree, but I would bet that they also don't own very many Beatles records.

If you rank The Beatles under rock, why isn't Amadeus there too? 😛

The Beatles produced kiddiepop.
Like Helter Skelter?

Just cause they produce such a song doesn't mean they're suddenly a rock band. Listen to Avril's Chop Suey cover and try calling what she produces metal.
I think your wooden shoes are a little tight and are cutting off the blood flow to you brain.

No one wears those here except for the few entertaining the US tourists. The old tourists that is, all the young Americans are crackheads who just come here for the drugs and whores. We all wear leather pants, and brown shirts here instead. Oh no wait, that's Germans who do that.

The thing about George was he was very low-key. John and Paul used to bully him around and George Martin never really encourged him. In the end he wrote and performed some of the best Beatles songs; While My Guitar Gently Weeps (even w/o Clapton it's great), Something, Here Comes the Sun, All Things Must Pass (even though it was never offically recorded with the Beatles).

Well aren't the Dutch more or less German? (not meant as an insult)

I'm having a rough time thinking that someone wants to compare Jimmy Page to... George Harrison? God forbid a rock band have a guitar solo. As for George "not stepping on the music with crazy solos" I'm sure John Tesh uses the same reasons for never giving a good ol fashioned finger roll.

All you need to do is listen to Abbey Road, Track 16 if you have any doubts about George's abilities. FYI, the solo order is Paul-George-John.

Well I addressed that issue in an earler post you must have skipped.
Also, NYSC HAS NOT out sold Zepplelin.

Current popularity may not mean anything.
But, if you are popular 30 years later, that is everything. You have stood the test of time. Especially since way way way more people are buying albums now than years ago, yet Zeppelin is out selling Spears 30 years later vs. maybe 2 for her.

best selling dvd in the country 🙂
