I can't take this poll seriously without the Rolling Stones as a choice. I do not consider Pink Floyd as one of the top fifty rock bands, and I tend to think Led Zeppelin is not a credible choice either.
I'd agree Rush should have been in there, but I can't pop in a Stones album (or albums...mmm, mp3 CD player!) and listen to it. I can pop off a dozen bands that that works well with, but not them.
And c'mon, any group that could make Tea for One, Stairway, Carouselambra, In My Time of Dying, and No Quarter just plain rules over all others. I know many people don't agree on those songs, but how many people simply don't like Zep? Not many, IME.
Note: on my current playlist:
AC/DC: 13 songs
Alan Parsons Project: 21 songs (Tales of Mystery and Imagination and Turn of a Friendly Card)
Alice in Chains 21 songs (Dirt, SAP, and single selections)
JCS: 21 songs (all but John 19:41)
Led Zeppelin: 23 songs, and I need to add a few
Metallica: 20 songs (Load and the better part black album mostly)
Ozzy: 19 songs, largely due to studio and live recordings
Pink Floyd: 22 items, 25 songs separating all parts of Dark Side, and even more if The Wall weren't just 2 MP3s.
Queenryche: 21 songs (Promised Land, and the better parts of Empire, Rage for order, and The Warning)
Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow: 14 songs
...all other groups or artists have 13 or fewer.
