if you like Top Chef, you might like Chopped too.

personally, I think it's better -- or at least more challenging. the episodes are self-contained, though.

I really, really like Chopped. I don't consider that reality TV, though. Top Chef is, I guess. Chopped is more of a contest of skills without the injected drama.

I think the term "reality tv" is widely overused.

things like American Idol, Top Chef, and the like are really just game shows.

Yes, I don't think American Idol is the same, but I think Top Chef is pretty much reality TV. you do have injected drama and ridiculousness, though it's low compared to Ramsey's show and others.

Maybe Cops doesn't count--but it's far more real than just about anything out there today (I think The People's Court is usually considered the first reality TV show?)

the first season of Real World was actually really, really good. It was real people, they actually had to get jobs and actually try to live. No bullshit games to pass as "work" and fake, injected mental midget personalities chosen only to create discord and idiocy.

I like Tabitha's Salon Takeover. It sounds really gay, but I like watching someone who's good at their job. There are too many people on TV these days who are only there for being shitty and terrible. Tabitha takes these crappy salons and berates flaky people into getting their shit together.

Anyway, reality tv genre as a whole has kept tv fresh. How many SVUs, NCIS, and ER shows can you have? And most other dramas are very hit or miss. I think it's a good mix to have them.

Top Shot

is awesome. I don't generally like reality shows or even watch much TV at all, but Top Shot is excellent. In fact I'm waiting for History or Hulu to post yesterday's episode still, but I don't think it'll come up till tomorrow. C'mon, put those episodes up as soon as they're over (well, I guess they need to wait for the west coast airing, but still).

Runs House, was fucking hilarious when his youngest son told him he was embarrassed that he showed up at the bus stop to pick him up in a Phantom. So the next day he showed up in a Phantom wearing a Gorilla suit.

The ones that I actually liked to watch were:

- The Joe Schmoe show
- Tough Enough (the WWE wrestling training based show)

Not a big reality TV fan... wife watches jersey shore, I'm not a fan.

I will watch American Idol here and there... maybe some Pawn Stars or American Pickers.
