Best razor?

I've been shaving with razors for decades, even before stainless razors hit the market. D: When Gillette Good News came out, I was like OMG. I got a freebie Schick Xtreme about 6 months ago and using the drying technique recommended in the Off Topic thread linked below, it's lasted me almost 6 months! I shaved my fairly heavy beard entirely about every other day. I don't remember what kind of Schick Xtreme it was. What's best/good/etc.?

For cartridge razors, the Gillette Mach3 has been the best for me.

As always, I'll also suggest trying a DE, especially with a heavy beard.

I use the Gillette Fusion razor. Works great but expensive.

+1 - absolute best razor I have used ever. A friend of mine couldn't stop talking about it, and I decided to get one. Holy crap, the thing literally glides off your skin. I had to check to make sure it was actually working.

The single blade on the opposite end is also a nice touch. The refills are super expensive though.

I currently have the following:
Gillette Fusion Power Razor, Phantom
Gillette Fusion Proglide Power Razor
Gillette Razor Manual, Fusion Gamer

Out of them all the Proglide is slightly better than the phantom
The phantom is only slightly better than the Fusion Gamer

The "power" is kinda cool. It really don't do much but I like how it feels

I prefer the Gillette Sensor twin-blade. I've tried the Mach 3 and the ludicrously overengineered Fusion and never found that they work better.

Ditto. I even tried the Schick Hydro because it's refills were about 40% cheaper. Not even close. Fusion is just ridiculously expensive, but there's nothing close that I've tried.

I tried that out recently, and it's almost got TOO many blades on it. The blade head is so big it doesn't seem to get hair around curves on my face.

Mach III never let me down.

It feels like I've been shaving since razors were hewn from a piece of sharp obsidian, and for me, the Mach 3 is the best of the bunch. I've used the DE "safety razors popular since the 40's or 50's, the Trac2, and the sensor, but I switched to the Mach 3 when it came out in 97-98 and haven't found any reason to change since.
I was cleaning out the garage last year and found a box that had been packed away since we moved here in 99, and in it was a brand-new package of Sensor cartridges...still sealed.
I took those out and tried them...and was glad to go back to the Mach 3. Even though they're the same width, the Sensor just seems so small by comparison. The Mach 3 does a much better job of daily shaving than the Sensor, but, if I go a week or 2 without shaving...I use the Sensor to hack through the mass of whiskers, then finish shaving with the Mach 3.

BTW, I hate the Schick blade offerings. They always seem to have a much "rougher/scratchier" hone than the Gillette blades.

Personally I can use the Fusion (using one right now), but I prefer the feel of Schick's Quattro razors. Something about the angle of the Fusion just doesn't feel right, and it seems like the Quattro ages better (I have thin baby-hair-like facial hair and shave maybe once every three days). My first Quattro+cartridge lasted me about a year before I decided I may as well try a new one. My Quattros gave me a relatively smooth shave whereas the Fusion felt uneven and scratchy.

Another problem with it, for me, was it clogged easier and was more difficult to wash out compared to the fewer bladed heads.

I picked up the new Shick Hydro 3 a few weeks ago, I like it even more than my Mach 3. Which was my old favorite. Reviewers online were saying they liked the 3 over the 5 (3 vs 5 blades) I'm very happy with it.

I use a DE. Mach 3 is great if you're beard isn't too thick, but I go through those blades like crazy. Anything more than 3 blades clogs up.

DE is cheap and is tough enough to handle my facial hair.

6 months? Do you even grow hair on your face? :D

I might have to try that. I've also been shopping around for different shaving products/techniques.

funny you ask this. This morning I used my Fusion Proglide that I got for free in the mail, hot-damn that was an amazing shave.

The power thing I had never used before, it worked perfect for me, and the shave was a alot faster than my regular Fusion.... too bad I have like 8 fusion razors, which will likely last me a couple years lol

Gillette got me hooked on their products in the usual fashion (giving 18 year olds a free razor) which for me was the Gillette Sensor. I still have a Sensor, Mach 3 and a few of the Fusion razors. Honestly I think they all work good. The only reason I use the Fusion now is because I have a bunch of the blades. The Fusion Power is essential as the vibrating handle does a nice job of clearing the hair out of the blades.

I've tried various Schick razors and some other generics. Never liked them as much as the Gillettes though. I don't know if I'll ever try DE or not. Maybe I will. My brother is going to try it out and let me know how it is.
