BEST Quietest HSF

My apologies if this has been beaten to death but I currently have a Globalwin CAK-II 38 HSF and the thing sounds like a Boeing 747. I need a good quality HSF that will keep things cool (i dont overclock) for an AMD XP 1800 (Socket A) cpu. No watercooling. Looking to spend no more than $50. Any suggestions?

This Zalman would probably work for you. It says socket A compatible. From what I have read on this forum and in some reviews it's nearly silent when set to the lowest fan speed. It's only $28 shipped from Amazon.

i'm using the thermaltake fanless for my amd 64 . . .it workw well . . no sound except for the psu and exhaust fan, but my computer is really quiet. Don't know if they make it for athlon xp socket A tho.

Yup. That's the no-brainer, best value solution. The 92mm AlCu model will be fine. I have one cooling my P4 3.0C perfectly fine at a very quiet 1400 RPM.

The big-brain, big money, but all-out best, solution is the Thermalright XP-120. I'm not sure if it's socket A compatible though, and you need to supply your own quiet 120mm fan. There's also the Thermalright XP-92 for 92mm fans, but again, I'm not sure if it's socket A compatible, and again, it's sold without a fan.

Go for the Zalman.

Great thanks. Im a bit confused by the variations of the Zalman 7000 on amazon.com. Can someone link to the one I need for Socket A? Also, any suggestions on good quality QUIET 80mm case fans? Im using a couple Thermaltakes right now and I think the DB level is 37ish.

How much are you willing to pay for those fans and how quiet do you want them to be? The ones Silenx.com sells are very quiet and excellent quality.

I noticed the Silenx fans are a VERY low dBA but CFM is 15 (versus 37) and RPM is 1500 (versus 2900). Does this matter?

Well, as with any fan, if you want it to get quieter at a set size build quality will only do so much, then you have to slow down the fan. It may matter if your system runs really hot, what kind of setup do you have?

Thermalright Si-97 with the low speed panaflo. Jabtech has good prices on both, but thier site is down for a server-change right now.

I have the SI-97 wit the med flow panaflo at 7V and it is quite and cool.

Does the Zalman require you to remove the motherboard and install the brackets from the bottom up? If so, I need a simpler install.

I installed it with the motherboard still in the case. Just put the case level took the PSU out and then installed it. Wasn't a had install. Check for motherboard compatibility issues.
