Best quiet HSF for a Mobile XP 2500+ for under $40

I personally use the stock HS w/ an 80mm fan and a fan funnel. It's nice and quiet, and cools sufficiently for my OC'd 2500 @ 3200 speeds. I'm running a Soltek SL-NV400, stock voltage on the CPU.

Can the Zalman 7000A be used in silent mode for the mobile 2500/2600, if you don't overclock?

All the models mentioned are the usual answers. Are there any models someone would recommend that aren't $35-40? Spending that much to overclock makes me just want to buy a stronger chip in the first place.

I have heard the Speeze Whisper Rock heatsinks are good for overclocking and they are less than $10 bucks.

then dont overclock and get a stronger chip, Enthusiasts do it and spend time and money for the LOVE of overclocking.

Enthusiasts do it to get better bang for the buck. Most of theses users already have a hsf from a prior rig, so the only cost they have is the proc. itself.

i agree, enthusiasts do it to get the best bang for the buck, but sometimes you just have to pay a bit more to squeeze out every bit of speed out of your proc. so for example, a $40 hsf (spending that much, yes) will most likely give a better result compared to a $10 hsf. 🙂

I am running my XP-M 2400+ at 2250 with the Zalman 7000A AlCu and getting around 46C at full load. You can get it at New Egg for just under $40. One of the reasons I chose it was because I plan to upgrade to A64 in a year or so and it will fit ( as long as the dont really change things for Socket 939) so it is an investment that will pay off in the future. So the money really isnt bad if you think about it that way.

Also, if you could recommend a good oc'ing Nforce2 Ultra 400 MB, I'd appreciate it.

ABiT NF7-S is an excellent motherboard for OC'in

My friend is running a 460mhz FSB with no probs...

Here's a better heatsink, that has a copper core, for $2 more: Speeze FalconRock (it's said to be good for between 2.3 and 2.4ghz), and here's the best heatsink you can buy, except for the Thermalright's, and for less $ than a Thermalright: Thermaltake Volcano 12 Extreme.
