Pretty good article in my opinion. It's written form the slant 'is Brady the best ever?' but it has a pretty fair breakdown in a bunch of different categories. In my opinion, if things keep going as they have been for another few years you will see Brady at #1 easy.

OVERALL

1. Johnny Unitas
2. Joe Montana
3. Tom Brady
4. Dan Marino
5. Peyton Manning
6. John Elway
7. Terry Bradshaw
8. Brett Favre
9. Otto Graham
10. Dan Fouts

Discuss?

I would have never guessed Brady might be on par with Montana but have come to the conclusion he is and could surpass him if he hasn't already. Montana was never as physically talented as Marino or Elway, but had all the intangibles that made him a great winner and one of the greatest qb's.

Brady tho has the intangibles as well (unshakeable, clutch, precision under pressure, fierce competitor), but is stronger physically too, as we've seen this year with stunning offensive numbers.

Fail!

Otto down at 9, but won more titles than anyone listed. Peyton in front of Favre & Bradshaw, Aikman not even on the board. How does Fouts get up there before a Moon, Kelly, Tarkenton, Namath, etc. Other than this season Brady's numbers are hardly mind blowing in all time perspective, although IMO titles add weight to the overall legacy.

He is entitled to his opinion but my top 10 would not look anything like that.

lol at that list. We all know that Brady is good, but you put him in any of the teams of the other QBs in that list, I bet you he wouldn't be as good.

I dont remember 6ft 4 wide receivers back in the days to make the quarterbacks look as good as todays, but hey what do I know.

No. I know it's somewhat subjective, but Brady shouldn't even be ahead of Marino or Elway. And Manning is number five but Namath isn't even on the list? Total joke.

Not to mention, Bradshaw was the product of an outstanding receiver group and one of the toughest defenses in NFL history.

Elway, on the other hand, had little to no ground game until Terrell Davis and his team's defenses were up and down throughout his career. Even with that, he was the most feared quarterback ever. He should be number 1.

<------admitted Elway stalker

Brady's only 30. When he retires with another 4 rings I think he'll get bumped up the list.

More to the point, I don't remember refs throwing a flag when a DB so much as looked at a receiver.

They do have a formula for projecting stats of older players to todays game, do that and their numbers (especially Otto's) are stunning. The passing game is much different today than it was in the 50s-70s, although Otto played in an offensive scheme that was the beginning of the west coast offense. Compare his numbers to other players of his era, and see if anyone today separates themselves in such a manner. He still holds the record for YPA which is one of the better barometers when judging a QB. The fact that he set that record in the 50s and it still stands today is a testament to his greatness.

Bottom line Bradshaw won 4 SB and Otto led the Browns to 10 straight title games and won 7. Otto also won an NBA championship, came in 3rd for the Heisman as a tailback, and returned punts for the Clowns.

There's no one I would pick to lead a team to a superbowl win over Montana...except perhaps Brady now. That said, I never watched Bradshaw, Unitas, or Graham play.

I'm not sure how many of you actually read the article, but looking at the specific categories and the reasoning in each one, I can see, for the most part, how they came up with the list.

The categories are as follows:

ACCURACY
VELOCITY
QUICK RELEASE
INTELLIGENCE
MECHANICS
ROUTE OWNERSHIP
KILLER INSTINCT
TWO-MINUTE MASTERS
WORK ETHIC
MOBILITY

So it is obviously extremely subjective, but I think sheds a little more light on why things panned out the way they did, i.e. not solely numbers focused and more from a scout's perspective.

Marino's mobility score = negative infinity plus .99999999 lol. He had 87 total rushing yards over a 16 year career.

Lol true, but he made up for it, at least somewhat, with his release.

Im sure they could but now a days the receivers are taller more athletic, faster etc, so im sure they can help a QB's stats tremendously.

Sorry. Fail.

Why should Montana be above Brady?

Joe Montana
Tom Brady

I cannot believe you posted links to their stats. LOL. If we're going to go off avg QB rating, then Joe Montana is only the 5th best 49er QB ever....behind all time greats like Tim Rattay and Jeff Garcia among others. Brillliant! Longevity? I say we rank Vinny Testaverde first. All that to say I can arguing with you would be pointless.
