RSI:

I don't really like WD's either. But I don't think they suck. They only reason I use them in computers I build because they are really reliable. I have only RMAed a couple out of countless ones I have used on customers machines. But they are slow and loud. But definetly IBM and Quantum are good drives.

I have owned Western Digital, Maxtor and IBM drives, and have never had a failure. These are the drives that I currently have in use, still running great:

Western Digital 1GB
Maxtor 2 x 4GB, 6GB, 3 x 20GB
IBM 10GB, 2 x 20GB

Maybe I've just been lucky, I don't know. I used to be totally pro-IBM, but then over time realized that Maxtors seemed just as good, and started using more of them. I'm currently using 2 of those Maxtor 20GBs in *ahem* a RAID 0 *ahem* config. Tempting fate? Yes. Do I back up my data? I should do it more often... I'm thinking of getting a couple more 20.4's (since they're so cheap), and doing RAID 0+1.

So anyways, to answer your question, IMO, Maxtors and IBMs are the best.
