Why is Quake2 being voted the most? I'm guessing a lot of people didn't play Quake1?

His LOWEST point - so far - is Doom iii.

I said Q2 was one of the low points, not the lowest. But I don't think DoomIII is the lowest point, the story may not be all that great but the engine is great and will most likely be the base for some great games in the future.

Tell me he no longer has anything to do with Quake IV.

If id doesn't develop Q4 it'll probably suck because things like bunnyhopping which are technically bugs will most likely get removed/fixed and then we'll just be stuck with another FPS with sh!tty physics like UT.
Please try to separate the engine from the game. The diii engine is NOT Doom iii . . . . the game is his LOW point (just as Daikatana was Romero's) . . . . the engine itself seems Xlint! We'll see when Q4 and other games using it come out. ;)

Well, if his philosophy regarding Q4 remains unchanged from Doom iii, it will also be a POS . . . . i'm hoping someone ELSE - with excellent modern game development skills - are in charge of Q4.

Who knows for sure?

I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed a while back that it's Raven Software working on Quake 4, not id.

Now, back to the question of the thread....I never really got into the original Quake (computer was too slow back in the day), but based solely on which game stole the most hours of my life - I voted for Quake II. :) I remember buying it on December 13, 1997 (four days after release), after reading websites and anticipating it for months. I was 13 at the time. The year and a half after that, I basically played online nonstop - mostly Q2CTF. I liked the single player game too, although it must not have been that memorable in retrospect - Unreal totally destroyed Q2 in that area.

I did buy Q3 a month after it came out, but I never really got that much into it....I was kind of getting into Unreal Tournament instead.

Maybe here, but in general it is most often regarded as the worst quake.

quake 3 was the worst quake for me. either that or UT was so much better at the time, dont know which.

UT's physics were/are terrible.

i dont care, it was fun, i loved the original Unreal Tournament (any UT after that sucked, badly)

UT is too slow and there's no bunnyhopping. I tried playing it a few times and just couldn't get into it, but I could sit and play Q3F until my eyes dried out.

Q1 was the best in SP and Q3 was the best in MP. Quake 2 was solid but it wasn't as good in either department.

And yes, I think Doom3 (engine and game) rocked.
