Disgaea 1 and 2
Atalier Iris
Wild Arms
Star Ocean
Persona
Breath of Fire 4
Shadow Hearts
Suikoden 3 and 4

I'm sure I am missing a bunch, but these should keep you occupied for a while.

Xenosaga 1-2 were fun, 3 is in my unplayed stack along with Persona 3 FES.

Shadow Hearts 1-2 are on my to-buy list though they're out of print and expensive now.

Yes. Best RPG of 2007, no contest whatsoever. In fact, it easily ranks in my top 3 of all time.

If you never played Xenogears on PS1, pick that up. Its a must. One of the best RPGs ever. Easily my favorite on any console, topping FF4, FF6, FF7, Chrono Trigger.

I just picked up Odin Sphere and its pretty good!

Persona 3 was ok, but I kinda got sick of it. I got as far as maxing out my academic then I realized it was just to repetitive. Depending on the in-game day of the week, I'd do the same 'ol tasks in order to max out all of the points.

The middle third of the game tends to be a bit of a grind, no question. IMHO, it's worth it for the last third, which is the most emotional sequence I've ever seen in a game.

I had like zero luck with the epilogue portion of the game (the "FES" bit) - every time I got to the first boss, I was a bit too low on magic power to kill it. I might have to grind a few runs to see if that makes them a little easier, but I've got other games to finish first (*looks at LO*).

Dragon Quest VIII. One of the BEST rpgs I've ever played.....you don't even have to play the other 7 since the story is different each time....GET IT NOW!!

Also, Odin Sphere is pretty sweet

I put 100 hours into that game. I'm waiting impatiently for 9 to be released on the DS.

Yes. I have a copy of Digital Devil Saga, and it's quite different than Persona 3. I would assume the same would be true of Nocturne.

Ditto. I may give it another try in a year.

Maybe I will resume Persona 3 then. I am in the middle third I believe. But it will have the backseat to odin sphere for now :)

I didn't understand the AI points thing so I totally screwed myself over by the time end game came and my characters were all balanced in the points and didn't do squat :(

wish another game would come out like that. seems most RPG's now have more eye candy then actual game.

I don't know all the new jrpgs games anymore overcomplicate the genre imho. I like my rpgs simpler and more on plot than I do a bunch of mini games and micro managing battles and stats. I'll give an example valkeryie profile 2 has a system where you break bits off your enemies to create new equipment and the really good stuff only from bosses that you almost never can break.

Suikoden 3 is my favorite RPG for PS2. (I was hooked with the intro and didn't look back till like 100hrs+ + suikoden 1 + suikoden 2 later. Suikoden 3 is the best of the series.)

Xenogears for PS1.

Try Odin Sphere. I am enjoying it so far! There is no armor or weapons to deal with directly. You choose the type of exp you obtain. Normal exp "orbs" are for your weapon level stats. You can choose to transform those "orbs" into health exp to gain HP levels and heal yourself simultaneously.

Two of my all time favorite rpgs:
Dragon Quest VIII (for the old school rpg in you)
Rogue Galaxy (for the action rpg lovers)

others
Wild Arms 5 (great sound track, graphics, unique setting, interesting characters)
+basically anything else made by Level5. (even their old stuff like dark cloud, etc)
Xenosaga is alright if you can deal with the outdated graphics...
Kingdom Hearts (more action than rpg but still a must play classic)

Some of the rpgs mentioned above that I'd avoid like the plague; or at least, rent instead of buying:
odin sphere (way too much hype. the graphics were good but I couldn't get myself to go through the snorefest storyline)
suikoden 3 (loved the art, but the gameplay goes nowhere fast unless you use a walkthrough...)
Seiken Densetsu 4 --- had high hopes for this since I loved secret of mana/evermore on the SNES when I was a kid, but they botched it up with uncontrollable camera.

why so many hours? I think I put like 60 in and was able to defeat all the dragons.
