Best programs for Usenet?

I figure I'll start using some of the 5GB bandwidth per month that my Adelphia account comes with and mess around a little. I regularly use Outlook as my email program, but am curious about some other programs that are tailored to Usenet specifically. Adelphia goes through Giganews if that matters.

Thanks for any recommendations.

Why does everyone like grabit? Im looking for a new client for binaries because i have so many problems with grabit. Any others? I have used agent and some other client whose name escapes me at the moment.

newleecher is the best
grabit is simply horrible. Pails in comparison to NL for features and functionality.

I saw the thread and I was afraid I'd have to come in and do some edumacation...glad to see there are plenty of NewsLeechers users out there that spread the word. Tell me the integrated SuperSearch isn't God's gift to mankind!

I've never used the super search but NZB's get my vote for God's gift...

Check out the indexing site www.Newzbin.com. It's a pay site, but it's really cheap, like .30 a week or someting. They index all the files and they all show as posts forum-style. You just search for what you want, download the nzb file and then plug that into a compatable news reader (I use Newsbin Pro)

But why would I want to use two programs (web browser and newsgroup reader) when I could just use one? Just seems like that would complicate the process? SuperSearch is built into Newsleecher you can make a search for an item, such as "windows" and then filter those search results with "xp" or "vista" etc. etc. (it filters while you type)...pretty handy-dandy. I don't think that's possible with forums, though..

Mine is PAR(2) files. ;) Although NZB's comes next.

And I've always used GrabIt from within Windows. From the looks of it, NewsLeecher is trialware. Won't it expire?

But now that I'm in linux, I just use Pan although Klibido is not bad either. I'll have to try out Klibido again and see which is better.

edit: doh

One of the main reasons would be that you don't have to download any headers. ever. Searching is much easier. Also, things are broken down into category, so you can move to a category and just see what's been posted recently. Example, you could be looking around and say, "Hey! There is X! I forgot all about X, i'm goign to download it!".

You can also set up "Watch dogs" that will alert you when something meets your match criteria. So, say you are wanting something that is not on the groups yet, or is maybe old and just gets posted every once in a while. You can set up a watchdog and it emails you whenever something meets your search terms.

There are many pro's to the site. You just have to try it out.

another vote for newsleecher - it's great.

And on the mac platform, Unison is amazing. I wish there was a program like it on the PC
