If you're trying to backup your game CD's, then typical CD burning apps like Nero or Roxio just don't cut it. You need a program like Alcohol 120% or the old CloneCD to make backups of the original CD's. Most game CDs are encrypted, and Nero/Roxio don't have the capability to make a 1:1 backup.

Thanks a lot bud, some of my games are really getting scratched up and not sure how long they will last! I guess paying for this is better than buying new games

You can ask for replacement. I have thought about replacement for my MOHAA and some other EA games.

i remember seeing a product in stores a while back. im not sure if its still out there or if it even worked.

it was a liquid, you pour it over the cd and let it dry, it would re form the tracks on the cd and temp get rid of the scratches. allowing you to backup the cd one last time before its completely dead.

that was a while back, som im unsure if its still around. worthchecking out if you have a moderator or mojor pc related store in your area.

your version on clonecd might be old... cuz i can backup any game with clonecd, some games will need a crack, but the cd is perfectly readable.

Making backups of protected cds is highly dependent on hardware, but latley making a successful backup of recent games is a 2 or 3 application process. Surf the
cdfreaks fourms for tons of good info. If the game came out in the last year then you will probably have a good amount of work to copy it. If it is a few years old most of the time all you need is a burner that supports reading subchannel data and clonecd.

Also the errors you are seeing during copy attempts are part of the copy protection process. The errors aren't reproduceable by 99% of the burners on the market, the protection program can tell the difference between the original and a backup with inaccurate error reproduction, bacup is rejected.

Well, i have sucessuly made backups thanks to you guys. However, i can not play them. I get this error:

Question
I am getting Insert CD errors on launch.

Answer
If you have the Game of The Year edition of the game which can be identified by a gold banner at the of the box with the words "Game of the Year" then go here

If you do not then try the following:

Hold down the left shift key when inserting the game disc.

Make sure you have 32 bit drivers for your CD-ROM drive.

Set the CD-ROM cache size to zero.

Change the DMA setting on the CD-ROM drive.

Make sure the drive letters for the CD-ROM is set correctly.

Make sure that the location for CD music to play is set correctly.

Make sure your system can successfully play Audio CD's.

Turn off Auto Insert Notification.

If you have the CD burning software Alcohol 120% installed you need to turn off all of the emulation options.
1) Go to File > Options.
2) Click on Emulation in the menu to the left.
3) Uncheck all options in the window to the right.

If you have CloneCD you need to turn off the Hide CDR media setting. This setting is accessable from the task tray icon for clone CD. Right-click on the icon and uncheck Hide CDR media.

The following information may be helpful in resolving game play problems. Please review the error messages below and follow the corrective action instructions provided under the appropriate error message. Should problems persist or not appear on this list, please email us.

If you are experiencing the following error (Please note the icon):

Please ensure the original CD is in the local drive. If you are running the game from a virtual drive you must insert the original CD in the drive while the program is launching to authenticate the game. Once the CD is in the local drive, restart the game. You do not need to uninstall your virtual drive software.

If you are experiencing the following error (Please note the icon):

This program requires the original game CD be present in the local drive. The program is unable to confirm if the game CD is original. If the game CD is the original CD, please eject and re-insert the game CD and retry. You may have to reboot the machine to unload previous drivers that were loaded. If you are still experiencing problems, try running the game from a CD Reader.

If you are experiencing the following error (Please note the icon):

This program will not run while emulation software is running. Please turn off all emulation software and restart the program. It is not required to uninstall the emulation software, just ensure it is not running concurrently with the program.

If you are experiencing the following error:

?A debugger has been detected. Unload the debugger and try again?

Please uninstall any kernel level debuggers from the system and restart the game.

If you are experiencing the following error:

?Please login with administrator privilege and try again?

The game must be installed by an account with administrator privileges. Please re-install the game. Run the game the FIRST TIME within an account with Admin or Power User privileges. The program must install NT/W2K/XP drivers onto the system, which requires administrator privileges. Subsequent plays are allowed from any account level.

If you are experiencing the problem running the game with Virtual Drive:

This game CAN be played using a Virtual Drive. However, it does require the original CD be present in the drive when you first start the game. After initialization, the CD may be removed and play can continue. Please ensure the original CD is in the local CD drive when you start the game.

If you are experiencing the following issue:

After display of the initial game splash screens the application exits to windows desktop and nothing happens.

Please ensure debugger software is not installed in the system.

If none of the above works then try this fix

in every game i play. I have uninstalled and completely cleaned my system (regestry included) of all programs that emulate stuff. I have done everything on here, and it still won't work. Not just for call of duty, but also: C&C generals, Battlefield Vietnam, Hitman Contracts. I invested a lot of money into those games and now they are just useless because it tells me i have the wrong cd in. The only way to make it work is to re-install and then play the game right away. As soon as i re-start or close the game, it happens again.

that is the result of copy protection, u will simply have to download a crack and use it. u can download cracks from www.megagames.com

I get this error no matter what cd i use. Norton antivirus, battle field vietnam (ea-games) (original disc), call of duty (activision) (original disc), Hitman Contracts (Edios) (original disc)

It has nothing to do with copy right protection. Even though i uninstalled all of the cd copying programs i had i am pretty sure an emulator or something is still running. Because it says that it doesn't read any disc in my cd-rom drive (the games say that). So oviously when the games are booting it isn't reading to the default CD-rom or CD-RW drive. I also downloaded a NOCD crack for Battlefield, and it didn't work.

HELP!

Another alternative would be to look for a "no CD fix" for the particular games you play so you don't have to insert the CD every time you play it.

No, I'm saying, don't back up the game, just install it and use the no-cd patch for the game... then you don't have to worry about damaging the CD when you handle it hundreds of times to insert it all the time.

Thats what i was talking about. I even tryed doing a freash install of Battlefield Vietnam and without even playing it and using a NO-CD crack. No luck however.

You need a better no-cd crack then =)

he's right, you've probly got bad crack (heh, too much soda in it )

I've also tried most of those games (without crack) and gotten the same errs. it's all the copy protection they put on them. one good scratch can ruin a game because of it (on old school games it used to just ruin one or 2 levels, parts of the soundtrack, or occasionally the install files)

andr.net has lots of cracks too.

I use alc 120% and Nero 6 for all burning needs. sometimes you can use dameon tools to emulate a CD and just play from the image file that your burner makes (ie: cin+cue or iso) it's always been hit or miss though. the C+C games hav always had top-of-the-line hardball protection
