Best Program for Watching DVD on Computer?

So, what would the best program be for watch a DVD on the computer. To my amazement, the freeware thread seemed to have everything but that (it had encoders, decoders, etc..)

I don't care if it's freeware or not, a nice feature for it to have would be to increase the image quality so I doesn't look as bad running it at 1280x1024 (my native res) just to reduce the blockness (unless thats handled on a codec level and in that case tell me how to do that.

MPC has served me well for other purposes
it was the only program I tried that would show the input to my video card

Xine with mplayer as a close second. Although vlc is nice and some of the xine front ends like totem are nice as well.

Yeah, I want this, too. If anyone has a peice of software that will make high quality 1080P video out of my old VHS tapes, that would be great.

I use PowerDVD but on my big screen it shows like a halo effect sometimes on objects/people. I tried WinDVD and it only looked worse so I stuck with PowerDVD.

No it's not my display because some movies don't have this problem at all. The ones that do, stand out way more in WinDVD than PowerDVD.
