Best printer under $200

I have a Lexmark z51, which I love... it's since been replaced in their lineup by the z52, list is about $179. Excellent quality, even on plain paper, haven't had any fading problems, and my ink cartidges seem to last forever. I've had HP's, Canons and Epsons... like this better than any of them.

Lexmarks have like 5x higher costs per page than all other brands of printers. As shown in a recent issue of Consumer Reports. I like HPs but I also like Canons, both are frugal with the ink too.

Canon S400 $100.00/ Canon S450 $150.00 at outpost.com Free overnight
shipping. Both these printers have individual color ink-tanks
and excellent print quality. Cost per page is very inexpensive.
When you run out of one color of ink you will not be stuck buying an
entire new cartridge and throwing all that hard earned money in the trash.

Hope this Helps.

I had one of those Canons with the individual tanks.... damn things would evaporate sitting in the printer. Factor that into the cost, eh? I don't care what Consumer Reports says- I've replaced the ink on my Lex less often than any other printer I've ever owned, and I print more with it.

I've had good experiences with my HP, and I'd heartily recommend them. Good black print quality, not finicky with different paper types, and even on my older model (895Cse) prints from my digital camera look pretty astounding on photographic paper. YMMV.

another vote for hp, I've had a 722c for 4 years now and it has never let me down. you can get hp 800 series for usually around $100-$150, they go on sale quite a bit.

I have the Lexmark Z52 and love it. I don't have to replace the cartridges anywhere near as often as on my old Hp, and Canon. The Z52 is the best in it's class right now and you can find it at Staples for $139. HP is coming out with a new and improved model in the $150 range sometime in the near future that is supposed to one up the Lex Z52, but I can't remember the model # for the new HP.

I went from a HP 722C to a 970 CSE.. Whoa, what a difference in speed and quality. Can be had at Staples for mid $200's if you apply the coupon.

Im also ready to purchase a 990CSE for work.

😎Hey I just quit Circuit City and I've talked to every dealer and rep in my area before I got my printer and every dealer with more than one brand said the HP932c has the best quality for your money.

--The reviews in some of those computer mags are BS they list a printer they don't want to get a good review with either using more expensive paper or like $50 Ink cartriges when there're only 27, don't trust em. Reaserch that stuff yourself.

I'll put in a vote for the HP 932C. Excellent text and graphics output, the ink cartridges last forever, and it's reasonably fast. It retails for about $200. It's kinda funny how this little $200 printer mops the floor with the 4-year-old HP 870Cse I use. I paid $400 for that stinkin thing back in '97. I don't regret it though, because it still works great and has never let me down.

epson photo 870 is excellent for printing photos. Kind of loud, and quite slow when printing text (This is the printer I currently use) $179 shipped overnight

for $229 you can get an HP 970cxi, which is excellent for text, and fairly impressive at printing photos. This printer is also very quiet, and has a built in duplexer (prints on both sides of the paper)
(I used to own one of these... Basically it is the same printer as the higher priced 970cse, with a smaller software package, so its cheaper.)

Lexmarks are great. But the refill cartridge prices will kill you.

Buy Epson, like the new 777 has 2400 x 720 for $99.

I have an 870Cse too, and I paid $500 for it. 😉 I actually did have a problem with it (can't remember what it was though), and HP sent a refurbished model as a replacement. The replacement was defective, so they sent another refurbished as a replacement. It was annoying having the problem, but each time they sent me a printer they also sent a b/w and color cartridge, so I got over $100 of ink out of my problem. 😀 The final replacement printer I got has been working fine for over the last 3 years (knocks on wood), and I hope it lasts for at least another 2.

i vote for hp deskjet 930... works wonderfully. i've also had great experiences with my deskjet 722c.

too bad estamp is messed up right now... in the summer they were offering free hp 930c's for buying their $50 software, which i quickly threw away after getting my $175 rebate check =)
