Thank-you!

You can expect this thread to be resurrected pretty soon when i can add my experienced comments. 😉

it really does seem that canon has the best bang-4-buck printer now . . .

edit: gotta admit, didn't know that canon A-300 @ $130 would be so expensive . . .

now i need a new printer (epson just doesn't cut it anymore although it was fine w/my Fuji 1300) . . . 😛

Well, since you went ahead and ordered I will tell you that you made a wise choice.

The i560 is the best bang for the buck, all around, injet printer you can get right now. It does fantastic pictures in it's own right. Basically the old i850 with less memory.

The i860 is a compromise printer. it adds a photo black cartridge for the purpose of better paper staturation and photo blending. The photo black ink (BCI-6) is unpigmented like the cyan, magenta and yellow. The regular black cart (BCI-3e)contains pigmented ink whick tends to not sink into the paper but is superb for text.

So with the i860 you get a little bit of photo printer and a lot of all round printer.

A i860 is a great choice for you, particularly at $104.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. I'm using i850 to print pictures taken w/ my Sony F717 and prints are beautiful.

Honestly, if I had the extra $$, I would have got the i960 . . . or i would skip a few extra lunches IF i needed more of a 'photo-printer' as the i960 is (even) faster, has an extra ink color and higher resolution for even better text (not to mention - exceptional photo printing).

I could have probably got by with the i560 but i have a real need for (more) exceptional text . . . 😉

Apoppin, the i960 has only a photo black cart that is 13 ml opposed to the i860 that has a 21 ml pigmented black cart plus a 13ml photo black. For richer black text the i860 is the better choice. Obviously the i860 will print more black pages per the volume.

BTW, best deal and all around quality photo paper for the Canons is Epson glossy photo paper at Costco. Like 100 sheets for $20.

Canons papers are great too but wore subject to ading under florescent light. Of course putting photos behind glass greatly prolongs there colors due to the natural UV fitering by glass.

Thanks, Macro2! (also for the tip on the epson paper)

That large black tank is a feature of the i860 (overthe i960) that i really didn't think about but is PERFECT for my needs.

I guess i 'lucked' into this deal . . . (my HP is running out of color ink and i am NOT going to replace it).

Ordered Tuesday NIGHT (5/4) from NewEgg - RECEIVED it YESTERDAY!!!!

AWESOME printer!!!

SUPER-FAST (you don't believe it's text capabilities), unbelievably QUIET (you can tell it's printing cause it vibrates a little) and exceptional color photo prinitng; makes my Epson and HP printers seems sooooo outdated. 😉

HIGHLY recommended.

BOTHJ thumbs UP and can't stop smilin' . .. pretty good fo $104 after MIR and a nice "companion" for my Canon A300. 🙂
