So far ive been eyeing the HP 5850 because it has ethernet and wireless connectivity, would go great with our 802.11b network. I have an HP 7350 that died, and the drivers loaded quite a bit of crap into memory, so Im not too excited to get another HP.

What printers do you guys like, how are the epsons and new lexmarks?

Canon i series that use BCI-3 or BCI-6 cartridges.
I believe they make a network printer.

Forget the HPs, Lexmarks and Epsons.

I like my Canon, sips ink like a fine wine which also happens to be cheaper than the others.

If you burn your own CD's or DVD's, and you're interested in printing labels direcly on the disk, take a look at the Epson R200/R300/R300M. The Epson Durabright ink is a bit more fade and water resistant that other brands, for any kind of photo quality prints.

These all basically have the same print engine. The R200 is only $99. The R300 adds slots for a bunch of types of memory cards for around $170. The R300M adds an LCD screen for previewing prints for around $230

RE:"Canon I860 blows anything away in the ink jet catagory. Esp for the price. Speed, Ink Cost, Ink Tanks, Photo and Draft. HP and Epson cant touch em."

The Canon i860 (5 carts) is your best choice unless you want a dedicated photo printer like the Canon i960. (6 carts)

For $75 at Sams or Costco the i560 is a heck of a printer. The difference is that the i860 has an extra photo balck cartridge.

Mac

I feel for the poor suckers who buy HPs and Lexmarks.

Canon i960 OH YEAH. :)

OTOH if you're a heap-a-cheap like me, the i560 is perfectly fine, just a little slower and it doesn't have the 6-colour inks.

Tell me about it.

I sit here staring at a $500 Epson that only clogs the heads after each use. Ink costs are insane, since half of it goes to cleaning the damn thing. I feel bad trying to pawn it off on someone, so it sits here as a door stop.

I have a I860 myself and havent been happier. Took me about 1 month to decide what i would buy.

I have been researching printers for quite a while.... And it all depends on what your useing it for, but heres the run down.

Never buy Lexmark, period.
Never buy an HP inkjet they suck, their terrible, expensive, and they look grainy. They only one or two color cartirges, meanin if you run out of red you have to replace the whole thing ($50) The only exception to this rule is the HP business inkjet. It prints ok, but its cartriges are huge and get about 2000 pages/cartrige.
Epsons are very nice. I own an r300. The photos are amazing! If your printing photos go with this. Has 6 individual ink tanks. The only thing is... It prints very slow. This is bad for a business situations.
Canons have very good print quality and nice speed plus they almost all have the individual cartridges.

I would go with a canon, unless your business excedded 250-500 pages a month, then I would definitaly invest in a color laser jet, or a hp business inkjet....

I just bought a Cannon A-300 3.2 MP ($129/OD) . . . is there a real advantage to buying a Cannon printer (esp direct printing from a cannon cam) and which one since i am (also) a real cheapskate (yet still like quality photos)?

The only advantage would be the "pictbridge" technology that lets you print straight from your digicam without the need for a computer.

The other advantage would be EXIF, but I'm pretty sure that most if not all consumer digicams support that feature now.

Get the i560 as I have done; ink is cheap, the printer is cheap, and the output matches that of a professional developer IMO (with good paper of course). If you need something faster, just go for the i860 or i960, although I find mine plenty fast for what I do (basically it will spit out a roll of 24 4X6 shots in around 15 mins).

Thanks for the tip . . . i am sick of the HP/Epson cheap printer/expensive ink BS. ;)

Now for the Hot Deal (looks like there is one currently) . . . . :)

EDIT: Looks like the Canon i860 can be had for $134-$30MIR = $104 . . .

good deal?
I guess the 860 is not only a bit faster than the 560 and has 5 instead of 4 ink tanks . . .

to add to my lst post . . .

the 560 has only 4 tanks, the 860 has 5 and the 960 has 6; the 860 and 960 are FASTer and have HIGHer resolution . . . (anyway) I really (really) need an answer since i am ordering NOW(!)

Howz the Cannon i860? . . . it seems you get a LOT more printer for only $104 (after MIR) (yes?/no?)

It (also) comes w/ a $30 rebate

It's $134 (free FedEx) at the Egg

$134 - $30 MIR - $104

Order?

Cancel?

(it's NON-refundable at the Egg)

I have 10 Canon i series printers.
I refill or use continuous feed mechanisms to supply them with ink.

Tell me what you want to do with the printer and I'll offer a suggestion.

I'm not sure sure who you're referring to, but I'll go, Macro2 . . .

i need a all-round printer (mostly text and graphics) yet that can approach the quality of a dedicated photo printer when i need to . . . . i just got an a-300 and am absolutely blown-away by the quality of their 3.2MP camera (esp for $130)

hp had great printers but their ink supplies are getting smaller and as expensive - it's a rip to buy
a tri-color cartridge just cause you're out of yellow . . . :p Plus HP cameras were the Worst crap (even for free i hated mine) . . .

And i am looking for best bang-for-buck

1) I can't afford the i960
2)the 860i seems full-featured for $104 and it's only $24 more than the i560

whaddaya think? order?
