Best prescription for social anxiety ?

Theoretically speaking...

Say you have social anxiety .. nervousness around new people, trouble with small talk, etc...

Whats the best drug for that besides alcohol or blow ?

Like a prescription that will loosen you up but not make you jacked up and without the attachement of a social stigma or being illegal.

Anyways, just curious.

Drugs are bad, don't do drugs. People love to talk. Just be a good listener, only answer direct questions, and you'll go far.

The withdrawal sure sucks though. And it didn't really help much. I felt tired all the time, yawned constantly when standing (like once or twice a minute, just nonstop), and I guess the social discomfort wasn't really diminished. It was kind of like putting a fog machine in my mind. Everything was just duller.
Not worth it at all.

As for what would be good to do about it?....um......WoW, porn, and /b/?

Create a persona that you think people will like. This will protect your fragile ego if/when you are rejected and/or ridiculed by your peers. This strategy has worked for me and it can work for you also. You see, I never show my true personality to others, just various persona's I create and present to the world.

We can still see your aura...and it's ugly.

I don't think there is a perfect treatment for it.
Drugs like Zoloft do help, but there is a catch. I've been on it for ~8yrs...definite loss in resolution in perception of life.

Maybe it's just age (33 now), reminds me of the lyrics from a Tom Petty song..."I aint really sure, but it seems I remember the good times were just a little bit more... in focus"

Get some counseling. It'll help. Also, start working out right before any social situation.

Also, hoping that drugs can solve your problem is not good. If this is something you really can't do on your own I would try to get counseling like manlymatt suggested.

In my experience, it has mostly to do with confidence. Take a few months and observe yourself to find what makes you insecure and nervous in social situations. Next, work to resolve what you find. If you are unable to do it on your own, try some counseling. The hardest thing for me to get over was the fact that there is no shame in asking for help. Just don't tell your friends 😉

Counseling/actually-trying...

EFFORT GOES PRETTY FAR...

You know, it wouldn't hurt to take some of your own advice.

Hey, yesterday a girl asked ME for my phone number, mkay? 😛 I am obviously not socially inept. And I have asked other girls for theirs and have gotten... then we did stuff. But yeah, that's a whole other story because.. ugh. People are confusing---.

The bolded part here is the key. Confidence is everything. I used to have issues with this kind of stuff myself... until I built up some confidence and realized something: Be yourself. I know it's a cliche thing to say and that it sounds a bit fruity, but trust me, it's important. Be yourself and if people judge you for it... well, you probably don't want to be friends with them anyhow.

Learn to be social.

Jesus Christ are we going to give kids drugs to talk soon?

There's nothing new here. People have been doing it for years. The public likes an easy way out. Problem is they refuse to believe history. That being that in the long run, 99% of drugs on 99% of the people taking them don't work in the long run. It's the long road that leads to fruitful results.

There's no way to simply "learn to be social". It's a skill coveted mainly by the assholes and douchbags of the world. When I see the "dorks" or the world, at first like most people I think "haha what an awkward tool. But when you see them within their group of friends, they are content and happy. Sometimes happier than I am. My point is there is balance that must be stricken, become confident with yourself and find a social group that matches.
