Anyone know what the best power supply is in the 600 to 700 watt range? I know PC Power and cooling is prob the best but they are really expensive and modular cabling would be nice. I've been seeing great reviews on Corsair, Mushkin, Zalman, Thermaltake, OCZ...so not really sure which one is considered the best. Looking for something in the 600 to 700 watt range, modular cables, and preferably greater than 80% efficiency.

You really can`t go wrong with anything Zalman. Thermaltake is OK...
The Corsair is also a good one!!

Good Luck on your choice!!

i originally went with a seasonic m12-700 They have great customer support when my thing pop'd and RMA was fairly fast and painless. Plus Seasonic has its name.

However, my PCnC 750 silencer allowed me to push my media center to a height unimaginable.

Here

Now i see why all the TOP oc'ers use such high end PSU's.

Id vote for Silverstone Zeus 65F made by etasis. <-- did i spell that right?

It probably has the most stable power, even more then the corsair and seasonic, in its price range.

However the Corsair 620 is a very nice PSU itself as well.

Also, modular PSU's arent as efficent as non modular. Something you should keep note of. I heard you lose power on the PSU when it goes modular, then non.

Link of PSU myths by PCnC. And there a very reputable company so they wouldnt lie.

Corsair is made by Seasonic either is fine but pricey. Enhance ENS-0560G-G. And if you don't really plan to push it all the time, the Fotron/Sparkle FX600-GLN (Ripple goes out of spec at high power outputs. At typical usage levels of 300-400W it's clean as a whistle.), it's one of the least expensive good 600W units sometimes found at under $100. +sh.

The Enhance ENP-5150GH can meet most needs for a lot less if you decide to reconsider. To get that extra 100W the price almost doubles for an equally competent, 600W PSU.

I use an Aerocool ZeroDBA S620, but I think its efficiency is lower than what you want. (Has a beautiful chrome finish though).

With your specs, I would check out the following:

Seasonic M12 700W
Tagan TG700-U35
and the previously mentioned Corsair model.

I really don't like modular cables as much as I first thought I would, so for my next build I am seriously considering the 700W Tagan model without the modular cables.

i realized i didnt need modular when everything pluged into the back of the PSU. LOL

But with this OP1000, i kinda wish it was Half modular. Have straight wire on pci-e main rail and EPS rail, and modular everything else. That would be  in my book

Agreed.

You pay a very heavy premium for anything more the 500 watts which really should be enough for just anything.

Seasonic, Enermax, Silverstone Zeus, Corsair (Seasonic OEM) are all good choices in that range.

http://clubit.com/ (a site I just found out about today) has the 620 Corsair for $116 after MIR with $9 shipping.
They have a good selection of inexpensive cases too.

The new Zalman heat-piped 600W unit is based on the FSP Epsilon. It has had a minor rework and does NOT suffer the out of spec ripple issues of it's parent. It is a good unit.

PPPPPsssssssssstttttttttttt...........aigomorla............PCP&C DOES indeed lie. Try looking at the extensive testing done by Jonny Gerow, or known as JonnyGuru, on his website about the TRUTH concerning power loss of modular cables vs. non-modular cables. Very eye-opening. The upshot was there's more power loss in the wiring itself than the modular connections.

Why does PCP&C lie like that? Because they are the ones perpetuating the myth......they essentially created it and persist in putting out the FUD of "Modular cables are bad!!"

I do find it a bit interesting that Performance-PC's, an "A" rated modifier by PCP&C does modular cable mods to the Silencer power supplies of PCP&C.....and PCP&C honors their 5 year warranty even when modularized by Performance-PC's. If modular cables were so bad, why do they allow Perf PC's to modify their power supplies and still honor their warranties on the modified ps's? Hmmmmm???

Here are some selected excerpts from JG's article and a link to it at the end:

Some companies have refused to manufacture modular power supplies and have even taken the effort to spread fud (fear, uncertainty and doubt) over the very concept of modular power supply connectors.

The argument? The resistance of the modular interface reduces the performance of the power supply, because resistance causes voltages to drop. No doubt any modular connection causes resistance. Nobody's denying that. But how much does the resistance of the modular connectors effect the voltage delivered to your peripherals?

Obviously, it's fighting a losing battle trying to convince anyone that modular connectors don't create any significant resistance, but I think there's a few things here we can all learn from.

Someone once said that a modular connector's pins have as much resistance as two feet of wire. I can't recall where that came from, but I think our five subjects have shown us that there's actually as much as four times as much voltage lost in a mere 18 inches of cable than there is in a modular connector.

Quotes taken from JG's article at Motherboards.org.....take some time to read it before swallowing whole something one company shoves down your throat....esp. if you haven't taken time to actually do any research on the subject!!!

PC Power & Cooling Turbo Cool 510 Series Modular with PFC

Notice Performance PC's is selling a MODULAR Turbo Cool 510 power supply? Did you read the bottom of the page where they say:
The warranty for this power supply is 5 years from PC Power and Cooling. Performance PC's workmanship has been certified as Grade A by PC Power and Cooling and therefore we can now offer you their fully warranty on our modified power supply.

Notice PCP&C is honoring a warranty on a modular power supply? SO, if it's so bad, why are they doing that? Sorta makes them a little hypocritical, doesn't it?

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I cannot stand people spewing out corporate FUD without doing the least bit of reading from impartial sources.......

BTW......you cannot go wrong with the Corsair. Rated for full output at 50C, a higher rated temp than any PCP&C Silencer power supply (which are only rated to 40C.) The Turbo Cools from them are rated at 50C, but they always seem to forget the lower standard they hold their Silencer line to in their advertising. Hmmmmm.

Hey G-Y,

When ClubIT first started one place they advertized was right at the top of these forums... I don't think they have that good of a rep.

the Fortron 700. Fortron makes a few of the other "marquee name" power supplies mentioned above.

having worked on power supply design teams, i can't imagine that their design team has abandoned all pride and turned in an inferior product for their own version of the 700 watt product.

it does look like people are happy with the Fortron 700 at Newegg.

it used to look like people were happy with the Fortron 700 at Newegg. they changed something and it's back down to 2 reviews.

Hmmm. I was going by some messages I read in these forums. Looks like ClubIT should be as safe as needed.

Hmmm. Pic isn't clear - is that 54 or 64 Amps on a SINGLE 12V rail? Ooooh, just another electronical killer waiting to strike...

54A on a single 12V rail Zepper. I don't need it but there are those that think they do
and a real minority that really do need that kind of 12V OMPH.

For that range I'd say Corsair or Seasonic. Seasonic makes the Corsair psu so either is going to be a good choice. Enermax makes some good units in that range but I consider it a leseer quality than Seasonic and Corsair. I consider PCP&Cooling overpriced and overhyped but thats just a personal opinion on my part. Fortrons are good too but I find them a little bit less in quality than Seasonic. Hard to beat the quality and quietness of a Seasonic.

Yikes.... well, i guess i was wrong... i didnt expect a company like PCnC to lie when there still ranked as one of the top branded PSU suppliers. And yeah i know my silencer is originally built by seasonic, and rebranded as PCnC. But i dont think i was able to bootup to 3.2ghz on my opty until i swaped to the PCnC.

And yes ive tried on a Seasonic M12 700, as well as a seasonic S12 650.

But your proofs are valid to make me believe that there fact isnt fact. You still cant say there a bad company tho, a lot of people live by PCnC as there PSU.
