Best portable MP3 CD player?

Is the iRiver SlimX iMP-350 the best in that price range? I like the LCD display/remote, FM tuner, and built in battery charger. How's battery usage, and reliability? I assume sound quality is good.

Is the 550 quite a bit smaller? Any other advantages? Any others in it's price range?
 
what is the point of MP3 CD players when you can get a HD based mp3 player that you'll probably be 100x happier with?
 
Check Epinions for reviews on that player. I would suggest a RIO. I LUV mine!!!

As to why not just buying HDD-based MP3 players? How about price difference?
 
HD based players - price, and the fact that I want to make different MP3 CD's to play in my car and home CD players.

MBony, why is the Rio better? Does it have the same features?

What about Phillips or Panasonic players?

More opinions on my iRiver questions?

I've got a Philips player, one of the Nike models (PSA-CD12 or something like that). I got it on clearance a while back. I like it, it's built very solidly, the sound is good, I get decent battery life with NiMHs, and it has never skipped. Downsides are a lack of backlight and FM tuner and a somewhat worthless remote. However, it is an older model and it might have been somewhat stripped down since it's meant for working out. Overall, I'd buy another Philips player.

Never owned a Panasonic MP3 CD player but I've owned several of their normal portable CD players in the past and I've always been very happy with them.
 
I've got a Panasonic MP3 CD player and I'm quite happy with it. It may not be extremely feature rich but it works well. It also has great battery life.

price... and MP3 CD players can play ummm CDs ya know?

I got a Sony mp3 cd walkman, i like it. it works. it get 60 hours of battery life on 2 AA NiMH rechargeable batteries.
 
I have the original rio volt (~3.5 yrs old now) and I still love it. It is reliable as all get out. I would definitely reccommend another iRiver product, but having the LCD only on the remote does give me pause.
 
I have the original RioVolt 250. 2 RMA's and an expired warranty later, my player is still broken physically, but with some creative use of tape, it still runs perfectly. I say poor build quality, I push the buttons and the whole plate that holds up the buttons and LCD falls in.
 
FYI Amazon has the iMP-50 on sale for $40 with free shipping. It's a stripped-down model (it does come with a car adapter), just thought I'd let you know.

Wow....my original volt (from before they numbered them) is VERY well built. 3.5 years old and structurally it feels like new. The only problems are that...
a: the face is slightly scratched
b: a small amount of dust tends to collect between the screen protector and the LCD

I'd rather have a CD one, I have a few hundred audio CD's and I still like to play those also.. plus, with the price of media, burning an mp3 has never cost so little 😉 and the players themselves are cheap, too.

Several amazon reviews mention their's will stop playing for no reason. Also someone mentioned it was $30? How long of a filename will it show?
