Back on topic - The Top of the Rock is a really great view at night. I also recommend the USS Intrepid Aircraft Carrier. Very, very cool!

Get your facts start before you start generalizing. Btw, I?m not recommending him to go and visit ?poor neighborhoods?, personally I would recommend him go see Shakespeare night at Central Park or something.

Youre kidding right? I dont need you to tell me the rules around here. If everyone got banned for calling someone else retarded, all of P&N and half of the place here would be banned.

And you can tap dance around it all you want by twisting my words, but you dont want to admit the truth. So Im done with you.

:disgust:

Youre absolutely full of it. Youve insisted on assuming the worst about everything Ive said since the beginning, and now youre so desperate youre making ridiculous comparisons like bringing enron into it just so you can play the race card again, even though you know just as well as I do that the last thing he needs to worry about when he's in ny is some multinational corporation's executive trying to mug him.

Ive got my facts straight. Youre the one who's so thin skinned, that to even suggest a primarily black neighborhood like harlem is more dangerous than midtown manhattan, is enough to label me a racist. Your PC knee jerk reactions are the obvious signs of someone who's spent so much time being brainwashed that you dont have the capacity to think for yourself, and call a duck a duck even if it calls itself a swan.

Dollar for dollar? Maybe. I believe he was talking more about in-person crimes. As in, a dude walking up to you with a knife.

You: http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/artfuldodger.htm

Anyways, if youre set on coming to NYC, take the time out to see central park, times square, and the city hall area if youre into architecture. Dont waste your time at the statue of liberty. If your heart is still bleeding take a peek at ground zero, and be sure to ride the subway at least once but try not to romanticize it, because it is really that sh*tty.

Also dont worry about finding a good place to eat ahead of time...just walk down any block, spit, and youll find one.

If youre looking to save some bucks you can find a hotel in queens, the sheraton in flushing is probably a lot cheaper than any midtown place, and is a block away from the 7, about a 40 min ride to midtown. But either way its NYC and its going to cost you. If you can get over the fact that flushing is hideously filthy, there are actually dozens of amazing chinese food restaurants around there.

I'll be in NYC in January for 4 nights (I know, it's going to be cold). I was wondering for those who know NYC, what are the best places to stay and what things to see?

I'm looking for a hotel room around $100-$120 per night, and want to be close to the subway and some attractions.

Any neighborhoods I should avoid?

Thanks

Hotel Pennsylvania?? Right across from Madison Sq. Garden

Can me and a friend crash there for Jan 21-22 (going to the motorcycle show)?

Visiting is ok but crashing is not! My owners will get very unhappy about that.

Besides that week there is going to be something very important happening. 🙂

Unless E. 96th street has drastically changed in the past 5 years, 96th street was the ghetto line when I went to school there. The high rises turn to tenements once you cross the street.

I know how sensitive some people here are to stereotypes so I'm not going to go there, but if youre looking for the best places to stay and see, none of my top 10 are above 96th street.

I was almost robbed there by 2 AA kids for my mp3 player but luckly i scared them off before they made a move but that's no reason to stereotype a whole race of people.

How did you scare them off?

Stay away from Harlem.

and miss out on patsys pizza?

Patsy's has a restaurant @ 67 University (right near me and yes it's the same owners). Same great pizza, great neighborhood too.

As far as NYC, some things I would suggest is to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, go to Chelsea Piers, eat a burger at the Shake Shack in Madison Square Park, wander Central Park, hit a couple of museums, go drinking in the lower east side on a Friday night, see a Broadway show (but otherwise stay away from Times Square), Empire State building, Chrysler Building, maybe a concert at the Bowery or Irving Plaza, and if it's remotely warm enough ... walk down the West Side highway pedestrian walkway.

Just a couple suggestions to get you started.

Get a City Pass if you've never done MOMA, Guggenheim, Empire State, etc before.

Sofitel is becoming one of my most favorite hotel chains. They are incredible in Europe.

Try out Haru Broadway Sushi if you can.

I take weekend trips to NYC all the time. If you are into crass humor, definately go to the comedy cellar down by NYU. You can make a reservation the same day and it really is a great time. Check out the lineups at comedycellar.com. Stay away if you or your girl are easily offended, though.

Screw that, if you're in the Village, you have to go to Cafe Wha? - the best live house band in all of NYC.
