Best place toget a cheap bicycle?

I'm thinknig graage sale or flea market. I'm going to live a little over amile from work starting on the 25th, and I figured it'd be better for me (and my car) if I rode a bike to work every day. So, wher ecan I get a cheap bike for like $50-100. It doesn't need to be fancy or anything. A 10 speed schwinn made in 1962 would probably work fine.

Any bicycle suggestions?
 
Are you kidding? That's a ton of money for a used bike. Head over to Toys R Us and see what you can get for $75.00 - $100.00. Most bike shops will have used ones. There's a few places online that sell old classics for varying prices. I'll find a link or two... How about 100 links?! 😛
 
Off a crack addict would be good. They'll sell anything for $4.
 
Check garage sales, post boards in bike shops, and local paper. I'd avoid the K-Mart/Target/etc bikes as they are absolute crap.

Pester the bike shop guys and see if they have something sitting around in the shop that you could take off their hands. There were always one or two orphan bikes gathering dust when I worked at a shop years ago.

If you plan on riding the bike to work every day, why go cheap on it? I would want something at least decent on a bike.
 
Go to a local community college and just grab one as an Asian exchange student rides by. The Asian students typically don't weigh too much, and they can't give very good descriptions of their assailants due to the inherent language barrier.
 
Good for you notfred 🙂 There are a lot of good reasons to ride to work every day, among them, exercise, less pollution, money out of the oil companies pockets, and with gas prices rising you'll end up saving a couple $ as well. I agree that you should consider a decent bike though as you may discover you get so much stoke riding it that you'll ride just to ride 😉

That stuff is trash, plain and simple.

If you want to pay less than $200-250, you need to be considering used bikes.

There's a reason that you don't see Huffy and Murray in bike stores (they're no good, they use cheap, off-brand non industry-standard parts attached to poor, "one size fits all" frames), just like there is a reason you don't see Trek, Schwinn, or Specialized at Target (the manufacturers don't allow it, in order to ensure proper service and protect their reputations.)

Bikes are not toys! <-- Read about it.

Ask where they sell their

BOLT CUTTERS........

a good pair run around $40.00

Then just go pick out the bike you want....
