President has minimal control over gun laws. The only thing he can really do is introduce a bill and hope it gets passed or veto it. Instead of fearing an Obama administration, you should be fearing a Democratically controlled Senate, if you are worried about gun legislation. More specifically, you should worry about 60+ dems in the senate since that would make it a lot easier for them to pass such legislation.

Can you purchase one now without the barrel thingy removed or is it still illegal?

which is exactly why we're really fearing new anti-gun laws. anti-gun dem pres with dem majority senate and congress.

I would wait for the panic buying to end. It is quite possible we will see a new AWB in the next 4 years but currently its far from the Dems top priorities so you have plenty of time.
