Hi.

I am looking for a good place to buy a computer online.

I'm looking for a Pentium 4 3ghz 800mhz FSB machine with
a stable motherboard, a decent amount of ram, and a case
with stable power supply.

The video card, sound card, hard drive size is really not
important for me. I also do not need an OS included.

Price, stability, quality is. I've been checking EBay and lots
of places and really can't decide on a place. I've looked at
Micro-Pro and EnvisionPC.

Have you looked at Dell? (Don't know if they sell 3.0 machines yet, but I would assume they do.)

I highly recommend NOT buying from ebay. I believe your best bet may be dell or a place like gamepc.com.

Dell is good and not much more expensive than parts from newegg.com. Are you trying to have the computer shipped outside the US or will you have it delivered here?

I find newegg.com to be the best place anywhere to buy anything computer related. Either online or off, newegg.com is the best place ive ever delt with. Great service, fast deliveries, great products, awesome company. I've built plenty of computers using parts ordered from newegg.com and I've never had a problem with them. For a p4-3.0c, the price on newegg currently is $397 OEM, free shipping, $400 RETAIL also with free shipping.

As for a good priced motherboard, id go with an Abit IC7. It oc's just as well as the otherboards as long as you get good ram, ( Corsair XMS is GREAT. )

Dell

Dell is the only online computer vendor, or should I say...reasonably priced vendor, I'd buy from. Ebay is the last place I would buy a computer from. Horrible idea.

Retail.....can't beat Dell. Build your own.....can't beat Newegg.

Dell especially if you find a deal in the hot deals section, abs-pc and nutrend are affiliated with newegg and both are great companies.

I'd go with cyberpower...they have the cheapest prices and still offer name brand components of your choice!!

Well if your looking at premade machines, I think Alienware is a good well known company...and they aren't that much more expensive than dell. About 200-300 for the exact same configuration, also another plus for Alienware is you get a Free Final Fantasy XI beta kit, which if your an MMORPG lover is sweet.

However, if the price difference is too much, my experience with dell has been ok...not great, not terrible just ok.

Like others have said, if you can get in on a hot Dell deal nothing will beat it. Those are cheaper than building it yourself, and often 50% or less than prices at places like Alienware. Go to the Anandtech Hot Deals forum and search for Dell. You will see examples of these hot deals. You can also go to do a web search for "dell coupon code" and you will see what is available. Some weeks the coupons are worthless (when that happens Dell is an ok choice but nothing to brag about), some weeks the coupons give you 15% or even up to 30% off an already low price (when that happens, Dell will be the best choice and the computer will cost far less than the parts cost seperately).

Check out nutrend.com and abspc.com and compare what you might find at dell. Keep in mind that dell uses proprietary parts that arent compatible w/ 3rd party standards, so you will only be able to get certain upgrades from dell and noone else. Happy shopping!

btw fear Gateway.

Name them. And please don't list things from 3+ years ago.

I'll get you a head start: the motherboard is proprietary. However I don't have a clue as to what 3rd party standards you will have problems with on the Dell motherboards. And of course you can upgrade to another motherboard no problem, so I guess this really doesn't fit your statement afterall.

Yep there also a proprietary size so they don't fit in normal ATX cases, and there mounted on the bottom for some reason.

In the middle of the 1990s, PS plugs were no longer able to keep up with computer needs. Dell and a few other companies took the inititive to make proprietary PS plugs to solve this problem. It was shortly later independently solved and made into a standard that didn't match Dell's solution. So Dell was left with a proprietary PS plug. But that ended when the P4 came out with a standard PS plug that worked just fine. Why would Dell and others take the time and money to make another proprietary plug? Of course they wouldn't and they didn't. So for the last 3 years the Dell plugs are standard. Too bad this myth keeps going around.

Dell itself is interviewed on the subject. "All Dell desktop motherboards now in production support the industry standard ATX connector"

Prebuilt,

1) ABSPC

2) Dell

Why are people suggesting NewEgg, I think it's pretty clear that he wants a PRE-BUILT SYSTEM, and not computer PARTS.
