Are you all kidding?! Chain/franchise pizza, all of it, any of it, flat out sucks! For real pizza you need to go to an old, authentic pizza shop with a brick/coal oven and Pops behind the counter working the dough. THAT is pizza! Papa Johns?! That's embarrasing, and further proof of the dumbing down of America.

Well since we're talking about local shops to, Orivia Pasta in 5th Ave Place makes killer pizza. Nice thick crust, not greasy, and not doughy. Just right. Fantastic sauce and excellent fresh toppings.

They are only open for lunch and you buy by the slice (but it's like 6 slices to a 16" pizza so they are big slices)....but damn are they ever good.

Anyone ever try Johnnie's Pizza? I know there's one in Malibu and they're opening up some more or something. Heard it's some kick a$$ pizza.

I prefer Papa Johns or some local ones. The local ones jsut make em so much larger and tastier than some of those chains. Plus it doesn't have that grease dripping off.

If anyone's ever in the Toledo, Ohio area, look me up and I'll show you some good pizzs. My calculus professor introduced us to "Jo-Jo's Pizza," not too far from campus. Thin crust pizza that's to DIE for. Monday's and Wednesday's are half price night, and this little pizzaria is packed....thats some good pizza.

Now I think I'm going to have to drive to Toledo tonight for some pizza :p

The grease is the best part!

Seriously, the reason I like Papa John's is because of the garlic butter sauce that comes with it.

My brother used to work at a small mom & pop type pizza shop where they would make an extra-thick edge crust and provide honey so you could eat it as a dessert.

I bet nearly every town with more then 10k population has a local Pizza Parlor which makes a better pizza then ANY of the big chains. Here we have Woodstocks and Papas inaddtion to Izzy's and Abey's all local chains or single parlors which make an execellent Pizza.

You forgot the spiceless ketchup they put inbetween.

Agree with Carbo and JohnnyKnoxville. I don't even consider Pizza Hut, Domino's or Papa John's real pizza. We do have several local small pizzeria's that make authentic NY style pizza that I consider outstanding.
