I'm starting a side job as a web developer and would like to get a host that supports both PHP and .NET sites. I'm more concerned about using MySQL instead of MS SQL 2005/08. Any suggestions? I found this site http://www.m6.net/ but it looks grim from reviews... Any suggestions?

First off - what's your budget? I assume you have no linux/command-line experience?

I do have experience in Linux command line, not very much but I can get by.

I'm open to a budget but I'd like to start off small and grow. I don't want to be pay 100+ bucks a month though...

Dreamhost is slow and not particularly reliable but they are cheap. I use DH for all of my hosting. There is no .NET support.

Bumping this because now that I have a job and some money I want to put up my personal website again. It is a .NET site but it would be nice if the web host also supported PHP, but the latter is NOT a requirement. The latest .NET support would be excellent (4.0 AFAIK).

Any suggestions? I used Reliablesite.net before and they were good, but I am just wondering if there's a better/cheaper option out there.

Hi Clamum,

Are you ok with running your own server? I can get you a virtual server pretty cheap with Windows on it.

You'd have full control over it. Install whatever you want and run it however you want. Run as many sites as the server can handle.

www.vServerCenter.com

I can do better than the posted pricing.

Arvixe (http://www.arvixe.com/) has been decent for .NET hosting but trying to run a Wordpress site (php) through their windows IIS hosting has been terribly slow. Support was no help either "if you want to host php we recommend using our linux hosting..." gee thanks

Another idea is if you are a MSDN subscriber (through your new work maybe?) you can get a small amount of Azure hosting for no change. https://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/pricing/member-offers/msdn-benefits/

TechBoyJK: Naw, I'd rather not run my own server. I don't want to have to think about or do anything related to maintenance. ;)

tarak: Arvixe looks pretty good. It's $72/year compared to $42/year for ReliableSite.net but it looks like their plan has more features (6 domains, unlimited databases and subdomains, etc). Hmmm. Thanks!
