I recently picked up an HTC First to replace my aging Lumia 710 and have been very happy for the $130 I paid for the First (i'm on T-mo).

My wife is currently with Sprint (I know, I know), is between upgrades, but her HTC Evo 4G Design is starting to crap out pretty badly. It doesn't make it through the day, its beat to hell and its developed some funky glitches. I'm thinking of getting her a after-market phone to tide her over till her upgrade (or even allow her to bank her upgrade until she really needs it).

Problem is I don't know jack crap about the phones on Sprint and I know nothing about how to activate a CDMA phone with the carrier.

So what used phone on sprint's network that can generally be had for ~$150 dollars (I'm a little flexible here) that is durable, has good battery life (just 1 day of moderate web-surfing/texting) and is roughly 3.7" to 4.3" in size (flexible here too).

Also, is it a pain in the neck to get one of these things activated?

Thanks!

IP4, IP4S, GS2, GNEX & EVO 4g LTE should all be in in that range. You may be able to get a GS3 or Optimus G if you are lucky or a skilled haggler. Check the esn on checkesnfree.com if you get one from the local classifieds to make sure it the phone isn't still under contract or blacklisted for non-payment. The sprint store will also check for you, or you can also call customer service and ask them to check. To move your number you can either go in to a sprint store, call customer service, or online through the account management/activate new device page.

Probably the best option to stay on Sprint.

But I have an alternate suggestion: buy her the Nexus 5 off the Play Store. This will be more, but when her contract is out she can bring the *exact same phone* to T-Mobile without having to get a new one, letting her get on a cheapo plan.

If you can afford the $350-400 upfront then that's your best option for a decent phone.

Thirded. Buy it now, move her to TMobile with you when her contract is up.
