Hey all,

atm am running a Leadtek 6600GT OC to 570 core / 1090 MEM, considered SLI-ing but dont think this is the best option? better off buying a new GPU then selling 6600GT...?!?

got a tight budget of £150-175 but would be willing to buy 2nd hand i.e. eBay

So, which should i go for? am a bit of an nVidia fanboy but if it was seriously worth it would swap to an ATI...

Need suggestions.

thanks all

I would suggest this card.

Link

EVGA 7600GT. $164 After rebate.
Use the spare money on cooling, and OC it mad.
IT out performs both the 6800GS AND the 6800GT.

Power or heat isnt a concern really, but noise might as the stock cooler is quite noisey. This card is roughly twice as fast than the 6600GT if not faster.

There is a rumour that the 7600GT which uses the G73 core has another quad in it.

However i think its impossible to unlock. However, this card is damn fast for a mid range card. I guess the core/mem can be OCed around 600~/1500~.

I realised its in pounds. How is that equal to USD?

Im thinking around 240~?

Either a used 7800GT, X1800GTO, 7600GT, or even 7600GS SLi depending on price.
I heard X1800GTOs unlock but with that single slot cooler, i dont think its a good idea unless you buy a better cooler.

hadn't considered the X1800GTO - so will have to have a look at this one...

Thanks all

What games will this be for? An X850XT can be had for around $165 here in the states, not sure what the market's like over there though. The XFX 7600GT XXX looks like a decent value at $170AR ($30MIR), and the aforementioned Evga although they'd have to overclock pretty well to outperform an X850XT, but you get HDR capabilities. They also won't handle AA/AF as well since they're only 128-bit. 6800GS are hard to find here retail.

7600GT, hands down. Had one, and sold it (had upgraded to 7900GT), but it was a VERY good card.

Only the HIS x1800GTOs unlock, so watch what you buy if you are set on unlocking it

Guys read. Its in pounds. He made a good decision and everyone is still giving wrong answers. Get the used 7800gt or 7800gtx if you can find one on the cheap.
