One important thing to remember about the Gigabyte board that everyone is worried about being 4x HTT instead of 5x -

If you overclock, most everyone has to lover their HTT to 4x anyhow, and suffer minute if any losses therein.

Mines on it's way, hopefully some good results will be posted shortly.

You are correct that to get a good FSB overclock you would need to lower the HTT to 4x however with a A01 and A02 they are unstable at 5x or say 1000MHz, most of us will be trying for HTT of 4x with a FSB of 250MHz giving us 1000MHz again, what the CPU is rated for.

If you buy the A01 and A02 don't expect to get the chipset to work at a 1000MHz you'll be lowereing your HTT to 3x and heading for 266MHz which will give you your 800MHz HTT that will be about the best you could hope for with the 4x boards.

While I can't speak for others, my A02 revision K8NF-9 manages a 4X HTT at 254MHz. If I bump the HTT Link voltage to +.3V I can use the X4 multiplier up to up to 268MHz bus... a 1072MHz HTT bus speed,

With said, given that benchmarks still aren't even showing any difference between a 600Mhz HTT and 1000MHz HTT, I wouldn't be unduly concerned if one was forced to keep the HTT around 800MHz.

disclaimer *not an expert by any stretch

seems like there might be problems if you get an sli mobo with intent of buying a second vid card in the future. two cards might need to be exact in spec.

anybody know hte diff between the regular nforce4 and nforce4 ultra?

yeah, you'd think the features of the Ultra would be a minimum you'd want. The standard version will be the cheapo get me up and running kind of board. I am waiting till it matures a bit more before I get an nforce4 board. Maybe wait another 4 months. :)

Considering the number of very serious issues reported repeatedly about the ASUS-A8N-SLI (I know there are some happy users too, but I don't want to gamble) it's eliminated from my list.
I think ASUS was too eager to be the first and released an unfinished product. They may pay for it in reputation.
Interessting to see the Gygabyte K8NF is out for a while now and reports from users are not flooded with problems like the ASUS was .. and still is.

$165.00 - Gigabyte - GAK8NF-9

$218.00 - Asus - A8N-SLI Deluxe

Those appear to be the readily avaliable ones. I belive you can run the SLI board with just one card and I might at a later date come up with an extra 200 to spend on another vid card but for now im broke.

I went with the GigaByte one (got it Jan 3rd).
