best pci card at the moment

i have a friend who has a dell 2400 and needs better video for a game he wants to run.
what is the best pci video card out there at the moment.

sell the dell and build a new game computer... PCI video is worthless for any game tougher than UT Classic IMHO...

I just did this for someone about 6 months ago... we used a 9100. What do you know... it only barley got him through FF11 (Q3, BF:V and UT2004 ran like SH!T) and he just had me build him a computer a few days ago.

I'm not sure how good of an idea it is to scrap the computer and go all new for "a game" he needs to run. I'd think it would depend upon the game and how serious the guy is about playing it.

what game is it he's wanting to play?........then we can give u better advice..........wouldnt need to go for a whole new rig......bet you could find a 2nd hand mobo for cheap that will support his CPU and Ram and have a AGP slot

how is the xtasy 9200 se compared to these
its on sale this week at circuit city
from my memory the se cards are typically weak
he wants to play a few flight simulators but not first person shooters

Radeon 9100 PCI is the best you'll do at a rational price. The GF FX5600 PCI is stronger in DX9 but PCI just isn't a serious choice for any current or future DX9 games. Its all the PCI BUS can do to permit playable frame rates in DX8 games, where the 9100 spanks the FX5600.

Visiontek 9100 PCI @ Shentech.com

Visiontek 9100 PCI @ Logical Plus

Visiontek 9100 PCI @ Mepotech.com

You want a 128MB card.....do not get a 64MB card.

Based on the above it seems like only shentech.com has it
not many ratings at resellerratings
anyone use them before?

What's to risk? Order, receive, test thoroughly, return if defective, keep if not. Even though some people reported receiving cards that appeared to be used, to the best of my knowledge, the cards worked just fine.

I think a few people said Shentech offered to refund their money, so I don't think Shentech was trying to cheat anyone. Shentech claimed they had no knowledge of the discrepencies because the cards were drop shipped from a supplier's warehouse, not their own on-hand inventory. Maybe, maybe not, but that explanation is plausible. A lot of stuff is drop shipped from a supplier.

Anyway, it was the AGP cards that seemed to be where all the funny business was. I've heard no complaints about PCI.
