Best PCI 56k v90 Modem

Your thoughts... Who makes the best pci internal 56k v90 modem? I currently have an actiontech winmodem, and I'm not so sure I have the best...

One of the best modem brands out there for years has been Zoom.

My first 2400 baud modem was Zoom, my 14.4 modem was Zoom, as was my ISA 56K, as is my PCI 56K V.90. (Although I only use it when I'm at home and not on campus).

But seriously, if you get consistent connection rates w/o errors and failed connects, there is no reason to update your modem. Problems like that may not even be with the modem, but with a noisy phone line.

The absolute best is a Courier V.Everything modem. But from the $260 price, it's expensive. But generally stick to either 3com (USR) or Zoom. Zoom modems are nice, and hardware based. If you go winmodem 3com (USR) is the way to go. Lucent winmodems tend to have their problems, connexant modems are an big piece of crap. I work for an ISP and nothing is more annoying that when a customer calls up and can't dial in with their $2 connexant modem in their e-machine pos.

Thanks soooo much for your replies! I went out and picked up a 3com yesterday, and MAN...what an improvement!!! Supergax, I now understand what you go through at work. I was upset when they suggested I try a different modem two weeks ago...thinking they were grasping at straws. Lesson learned...pay $39.00 for a modem, and get what you pay for!!!

If you want to squeeze every bit of speed out of that modem try some Belkin high speed modem cable (RJ11 jack). Got it at WalMart in the computer section, $12 for 15ft.

Friend picked up some of this stuff and noticed an immediate .4kb/sec increase. Tried it here and went from 48000bps avg. to 52000bps avg.

Also own USR/3Com, good choice although I would probably pick up a MultiTech MultiModem ZBA external USB if I was buying one new ($120-130).
