best pc rpg ever?

I downloaded it on 56k when it was free (and I think I saw it on AT HD back then). I prefer Baldur's Gate II. I remember playing it multiplayer in house with Fenixgoon, userman, and a few others years back...

That battle in the 2nd floor of that one docks warehouse was epic... timestop + fireball + magic missile + timestop + more spells + timestop...

Deus Ex. I've tried playing a bit of Betrayal at Krondor (spent a lot more time with Antara when it came out but only got around to the original later) but it comes off as kind of boring. The story never got interesting and overall it comes off as very unimaginative.

Aside from bugs (it was a Bethesda game, after all) I would say The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. I haven't played many of the older RPGs, though. There are probably a decent number of older PC RPGs with great storylines. To me, that is what makes RPGs more enduring; you don't need fantastic graphics to enjoy a game that has a well written plot and memorable characters.

It's close between Gothic/Gothic 2 and the orginal Baldur's Gate for me. Baldur's Gate probably wins out by a slim margin.

Fallout is close, but for games that completely engrossed me for a period of time I would almost put Wizardry 8 at #3.

I played that game non-stop for a couple of weeks, maybe even a month.

Actually, the first RPG I ever got engrossed on a PC had to have been Tunnels of Doom on my TI-99 4/a. After that, my friends and I played the hell out of The Bard's Tale on our C-64s.

deus ex comes in at #2 for me, and i probably have played it more. in some ways its funner but i just like the krondor old-schoolness too much.

Oh, man. Baldur's Gate 2. Minsc has to be one of my favourite video game characters of all time

You missed Khalid and Jaheira being a couple. And you've never met the person Minsc was protecting.

Kivan from BG 1 is my favorite character for some reason. I don't know why. I always get him as soon as I can.

edit - doh. I quoted the wrong post. Meant to quote Darkwolf.
