Best Partioning Setup?

I'm looking for input on the best way to partition my 20 gig HD on my new system.
So far this is what I've come up with:
1: Windows, Nortons, Swapfile (so it remains on the outer edge of the HD) 2 GB
2: Utilities/Apps/Games 8 GB (not a big gamer)
3: Data 7GB Mostly wav. files from cds that I will put in 5 folders of different music types until I have enough to burn a compilation. I don't do MP3 because I listen to my music in my car alot.
4: Backup 3 GB A place to make Ghost backups.

Just a rough out...any input?
 
sounds respectable...but i'd give windows a little more breathing room than 2 gigs..you can spare it from your CD burning partition, win98 or win2000?
 
Why? I had Win9x on a 1.5gb partition for over a year now, its not even 1gb full. Dont need one bigger than 2gb if your installing all your utilities, apps and games on another partition.

Only thing that will be going into the Win9x partition is system files, favorites, documents (if you dont relocate that to another partition) email in your application data folder, profiles (if you use them) and I believe thats about it.

 
I'd say make your life simpler, but thats just my opinion:

C:\5GB, Windows, Apps, Programs
D:\10GB, Games
C:\15GB Downloads, multimedia files, back ups
 
Stupid? I dont think so, every partitioning scheme has its advantages, I'd say partition the way thats the best for you.
 
Can someone please educate me on why its best to set various partitions? I'll be formatting my drive for win2k server soon, and I'd like to do it the best way possible.
 
Using Tweak UI I will be moving "My Favorites" and My Documents folders and my Outlook Express mail folders to the Data partition. This because I Ghost frequently or used to on my old machine.
Currently my C drive is using just over 2 Mgs w/o those folders but C: does includes all my apps/programs that will be on another partition in my new system.
Do you still recommend 3 mgs for the first partition?

Why separate your apps/progs from the OS? I would give C:\ 5gigs and have all your frequently used apps/progs on the same partition.

Do follow Ornery's link. It's the most exhaustive Net discussion ever on partitioning. The basic conclusion (if you read the entire thread and balance the arguments) is this:

Partitioning your hard drive will NOT give you any tangible benefits UNLESS:

1) You run multiple operating systems.

or

2) You have decided not implement a proper backup system and instead have chosen to rely on disk images sent to a separate partition as opposed to a secure CDR disc.

Again, the issue is very complex due to a lot of ingrained "conventional wisdom", but an honest look at the facts will show you that the vast majority of gains from partitioning are either moot or obtainable just as easily without partitioning. That includes the major myths of significant space gains with smaller partitions, better data file organization, increased performance, and drive imaging not working any other way.

Above all, don't partition your drive because you've always done if before, because your friends all do it, or because it makes you feel more geek-macho. Only partition your drive if you can find a tangible benefit that would not otherwise be available.

I prefer about 5 gb for system, programs, etc, with the rest for games etc on a HD larger than 20GB. Can't stand too many drive letters😉 But, like I said, it's a preference.

Let's see now 5gigs for OS,Apps,Progs
15 gigs for Data, games, ghost image
I guess that would work.
No need to complicate things unnecesssarily
