Moliplayer is what I use on phone. Closest thing to MX Player (which I also use alongside VLC for Android).

I don't think there's a tablet version, though. I always use the Video app or more often just go into desktop mode and use VLC.

Did you get my pm Crono the other day? Moliplayer is only for windows phone not windows tablets :(

I emailed the developer about a tablet version to see if they will make one.

Yeah, I forgot to respond... didn't see back button in that app or any other way to go back.

It's unfortunate, but a lot of the Store apps for desktop/tablet aren't that great, except maybe for some games. This situation should improve after Windows 10 launches at the end of the month, I hope.

Just realized VLC for Windows 8 is available, as is MX Player. I haven't tried them though. GOM Player looks worth trying, as well.

I don't currently have a tablet, but I used to have an ASUS VivoTab, and a Surface RT some time before that. I use Windows Phone on and off as well, and have a lot more paid apps on that than Android or iOS.

Free apps in the current store that I've tried and like, including some games:

Free:
Adobe Photoshop Express (great for quick tweaking of brightness/contrast, application of filters, etc to photos)
InstaPic (decent unofficial Instagram client)
Fresh Paint (fantastic painting app)
Plex (local media streaming)
Perfect 365 (a "beauty" app... more for fun than to glamorize myself, lol)
Translator (Microsoft app equivalent to Google Translate)
IM+ (instant messaging app... haven't used it in a while, but used to use it as a replacement for not having Hangouts/Google Talk)
Dropbox (cloud storage, if you have a Dropbox account)
Font Candy (for adding text to images)
Toolbox for Windows 8 (bunch of nifty tools in one app)
Jigsaw Puzzles HD (self explanatory)
PODCASTS! (one of the better podcast apps, I used the phone version frequently)
Manga Bird (manga reading app)
Papyrus (clean and easy to use note taking app)
Dark Note (creates tiles that are post-it style notes)
Project Spark (game creation sandbox)
Reaper (pretty good platformer)
2048 (everyone's heard of it by now - addicting puzzle game)
Microsoft Mahjong (didn't play Mahjong ever before this, but relaxing and good implementation by Microsoft)
Serenity (relaxing sounds app)
Enigmatis (adventure game... never beat it, but had it for a while)
Radiant Defense (tower defense game)
Star Chart (neat astronomy app)
ARMED! (one of the best turned-based strategy games for Windows tablets)

Paid:
Plague Inc. (fun game you've probably played or heard of: dominate the world by crafting and evolving an infectious agent)
Tubecast Pro (send YouTube videos to a Chromecast)
Rabbids Big Bang (Raving Rabbids game where you play with jetpacks and gravity... love this game)
Kinectimals Unleashed (pet game)
Riptide GP (water racing game)
Fruit Ninja (I have it on every platform)
Jetpack Joyride (fun platformer)

I don't have a lot of paid apps for tablet. Mostly they are games that are also available for Windows Phone.
I plan on getting another Windows tablet soon, maybe at the end of the month. I'll make a thread on all the Windows apps I've tried, and maybe write mini reviews.

I just noticed with VLC for Windows 8 it won't let me add folder :(

All media files have to be in video folder for it to see them. :(
