Which is the best P4 c motherboard to buy. I have about £100 to spend!

It has to have onboard sound and thats about it.

I'm not sure about the absolute best (is there such a thing?), but I have an Asus P4P800 Deluxe that I have been very pleased with. It performs well, is extremely stable, and yes it does have onboard sound. Plus, it is a pretty popular motherboard, so there are a lot of people that can answer questions about it. I personally tend to stick with Asus motherboards, although I have heard a lot of good things about Abit and have had a positve experience with a Gigabyte. Due to previous negative experiences with ECS and FIC, I stay away from their stuff.

just stay away from rubbish brands like ECS and you'll be fine.

any reputable company's board will perform fine @ stock speeds. granted you get a nice i875 or i865PE chipset based MB. anyway, happy hunting. finding the best deal is just as fun as putting it all together.

Abit IS7-E2, $82 (45 pounds... checked out of curiousity.) at Newegg.

Added: if you need more than two DIMM slots, splurge (+$5) and go for the IS7-E.

The absolute best is the Gigabyte 8KNXP Ultra-64, with the 875 northbridge and Hance Rapids southbridge, with PCI-X and SCSI.

ECS has a very poor reputation - but i think it is mostly unfounded. I mean, afterall, they build baords for Abit, Shuttle and i dont even know how many others.

psuc41, especially in Europe EPoX has a great reputation. FWIW I'm on my third EPoX board, and have had great experiences w/ all three. Currently I'm using the 4PDA2+ board, which is an i865 board. In addition to onboard sound it has onboard LAN via a Broadcom chip, two separate SATA RAID solutions and a PATA RAID solution. I'll buy another EPoX board in a heart beat.

My vote goes to the Asus P4P800 Deluxe - best performance & features at the best price.

I have never, ever, after 7 different mobos, had an ECS board that worked as advertised.
