Best P4 Heat Sink Fan Combo I can get for like $40

Okay....

Putting together a new P4c 2.4Ghz & ABIT IC7 & 512 X 2 of Kingston Hyper X PC3500 DDR sometime this week. And of COURSE I shall be overclocking it. Now of course many of you shall perhaps suggest, just use the included Intel Retail HSF combo, which is I'm sure would be fine. Yet my room is really insulated (about 10-20 degrees F warmer than the rest of the house), and also I want to about as guarantee as I can to get a over clocked speed of about 3.2Ghz and perhaps a little beyond. BUT WITH STABILITY, of course.

And I am in now way interested in anything exotic like Water cooling or anything like that.

So I'm looking to spend around $40 for a copper P4 HSF combo with EXCELLENT thermal dissipation. I saw on NewEgg the Thermaltake P4 Spark 7 for $25. If anyone things this would be great in my above O'C attempt, then maybe I'll try it.

But the features I'm looking for are a HSF combo with 1. Fan with Speed Control 2. Temperate Sensor. So if anyone can suggest anything better with those features, please do.

and get a thermaltake smart fan 2

or at the same place look at swiftech mcx4000 or alpha pal8942


none of them come with a fan afaik stock, but they might have a fan add option
or just buy a separate fan


for combo's i dunno....i never bought a combo except one swiftech one that came with a fan
 
I just ordered the Spark 7, and I am setting up a similar rig to you, IC7-G and a 2.8GHz CPU. According to Overclocker Cafe, the Spark 7 is a pretty darn good HSF. ChampionAtTufshop's suggestion is pretty good also, and should provide alittle more heat dissapation, but I don't know how much.
 
For something a little more quiet (but with great cooling), go with the Zalman CNPS7000-CuAl which is on sale at SVC for $30. It'll fit on that motherboard.
 
What about the All copper version? I'd be willing to pay more for that.

And does anyone think that either the Cu-Al or All copper Zalman would be any better than the Thermaltake P4 Spark 7

Well I think the only time I notice it's ugliness is for the hour or so when I'm installing it into the case, after that, I could care less how beautiful it may look. If it cools better, because its more ugly, then great.

But can anyone suggest possibly any other coolers that perhaps might be better than what I'm considering?

Id suggest getting a Thermalright SLK-900, and a good 92cm fan that puts out the amount of Db youd be comfortable with. It's probibly $10-15 more, but it will cool better and be quieter than anything in this thread.

Just for the record, the all copper version is about 50% heavier than the Intel guidelines provide for, so you could risk damaging your socket if you move your computer a lot. Also, in the head to head comparison I read (ill dig up the link) the AlCu performed as well as or better than the all copper version under all tested circumstances.

Man, if you could find that link I'd REALLY APPRECIATE IT MAN!!. I'm really scrambling now, as I will be placing the Credit Card thru purgatory tomorrow morning, when I buy all of my hardware from NewEgg.

One other/last thing. Can everyone else say that if I went with the Thermaltake Spark 7, and tried to O'C a P4c 2.4 to 3.2, I would be coming up short; instead of getting the Zalman?

Can't really go wrong with this
Performs better than the SLK800, and costs less.
Add fan of your choise. My recommendation is a Vantec Stealth 80mm. But people here don't seem to like them all that much 😛.
Or if you have any 80mm fans laying around, just use one of those.
