On windows I use utorrent and know there is a mac client. I had a look on the appstore but couldn't find any recommended there.

Any recommendations/personal preferences on good ones to use?

Transmission by far.

uTorrent used to be good on both Windows and Mac, but now it has ads and is just generally bad.

Transmission has a refreshingly clean and intuitive interface without sacrificing any of the features or performance :)

I've been using Transmission for OS X. No ads, very lightweight.

Used to freeze up occasionally, but that has been fixed.

Transmission is the best because it is lightweight, it is GNU/GPL, it can be run as a daemon with multiple clients, and it has great documentation. The windows binary however, doesn't seem to be available directly from the transmission website, only on sourceforge from some rando, which seems sketchy to me.

Qbittorrent. It's just like the old Utorrent before they went crap.

I'd installed a deluge client front end to connect to a RPi remote torrent box, until it melted something. Wasn't enamored with deluge. It looked very GTK-y if I recall.
