Best OS for gaming right now...

well, i understand that win 98 se doesnt allow me to use more than 512 megs, or at least not every efficiently

So which current OS is the best for online games (like lineage 2) and just gaming in general? nothing linux related please

Yes, but stability and better support for new hardware are 😉
For just running games it doesn't matter if you run Home Edition or Pro.

Conclusion

The tests show that there's no reason today to use Windows 98/ME in a new system. In many of the benchmarks, XP and 2000 are ahead - albeit only by a small margin. The biggest advantage of 2000 and XP, however, is in the more modern architecture, which, thanks to the increased stability and safety from crashes, allows for a much more relaxed work environment - and, of course, increased demands on the hardware as well.

Just what do you play that requires you to use a hopelessly out of date OS such as 9x?
The oldest game I play(not counting NES/SEGA MS emulators) is Doom.
