Hello, I was wondering if there was a better option for cooling my 5930k with OC. I am currently running a H110i GT. However, it seems the temps are a bit high so I am wondering if it is not working properly. I am at 4.2 GHz, about 1.18 Vcore at load. Idle temps are usually between 40C and 50C, and upon stressing with CPUz it quickly shoots to 80C.

In comparison, my other desktop with a 4930k ES is equipped with a Hyper 212 Evo, and gets much better temps. The load vcore for this system is around 1.26 V, though the frequency is lower. It uses an aggressive turbo boost @ 3.9 GHz on all cores from my Gigabtyte X79-UP4. Max temps under CPUz stress test is around 50C. Idle is around 30C.

Is there something wrong with my H110i, and would I be better off with another hyper 212 or similar air cooler? Not looking to spend much money on it, so I would say custom water is out of the question at this point.

I should mention my corsair H110i is rather noisy, and the corsair software never worked properly with it. Also, when fans are controlled by the USB, the USB would drop out intermittently and they would run at full speed for a few seconds.

I'd look into replacing the fans as the stock fans are rather crap. They run loud and don't offer all that great performance.

Noctua, Sanyo Denki, etc. Much better fans out there.

Thanks for the reply, that may be the thing to do. I will have to look into 2 good 140mm fans.

Your idle temps at that voltage indicate either a bad mount or pump not working correctly.

This is for the most part what I was wondering. I could try re-seating it, if no improvement then I would guess there is something wrong internally. At that point I would get a new cooler.

Thanks! Time to give the remount a shot.

Well, tried the remount, nothing really changed. So I tried putting the CM 212 Evo on my 5930k, and even with just one fan, temps improved. Idle < 40C, and load much improved. Under OCCT linx for a few minutes, stayed under 70C. I guess something wrong with my H110.

Make sure the pump is working, sounds like it just isn't circulating the water.

There was a trick or a certain way it had to be mounted to keep air out or the lines.
Once or twice the correct mounting was posted here when they first came out.
I have only used simple water like D5 and a 360 etc.

I'll just throw in with something I came across a few days ago, pertaining to the Corsair AIO's and ASUS boards. It said something to the effect that (of course) there are two CPU fan headers on the motherboard -- one labeled "CPU_OPT."

And someone had discovered that choices for cabling the AIO cooler's pump and fans to these headers made the difference for the pump working properly.

Since I can't offer anything more specific than that, the OP -- SCHMEE -- might want to look into it.

Here's my 5930k temps under a Noctua D15 with stock fans. I'm at 4.5ghz, 1.29V. The Max temps were during a 25 run loop of LinX.

I really can't speak highly enough of this cooler, fans are whisper quiet at idle and when they ramp up they're still decently silent. My Fury X is louder and it's pretty quiet itself.

Asus bios setup for corsair aio : go to monitor tab on the bios and disable the fan that the aio is connected, because from there the pump gets its power and it needs full power even it reports the fans rpm. No DC no PWM just disable.
