Anyone seen any good quick comebacks? I'll start:

I post on a group where one guy is currently dating a prostitute. I got into a big argument with some people and the guy posts in my defense/support. A neocon fundie posts; "Oh yeah why should we listen to you, you have a call girl for a "girl friend". 6 seconds later my post appears below hers; "Ummm, so did Jesus Christ. Next Please."

Please explain to me how "Umm, so did Jesus Christ. Next Please" qualifies as a comeback?

(not to mention that is wrong on so many levels)

Oh come on...a Christian (who is supposed to listen to what christ says), wanting to know why she should listen to a guy based on the fact that he does something that christ did too. As long as you're not insulted at a religious level, there's humor there. That is, if you find ironic hypocrisy amusing...which I very much do.

Not wrong at all if you believe they were more than friends, which a large number of people do. Very wrong if you're a strict king james interpretationist.

Like I said, we have an odd sense of humor there. 😎

When you have to explain a joke to that extent, it's not funny.

Not my fault the average person today is largely uneducated in alternative religious/historic viewpoints. 😎

it's not our fault when you make claims which are downright idiotic.

I'll pass your expert opinion along to all the doctorate holders who have researched the issue.

Don't judge a book by it's cover. You have NO idea what my views are. Calling my views uneducated in alternative religious is downright idiotic.

Relax man...I'm bored and caffeinated. Just blowing off steam. Save the venom for P&N.

In that case...make posts which make more sense 😉

But that would negate the ENTIRE point.

and the point being? 😕

Exactly. Now you've got it.

Ok, now I'm just super-hyper and seeing just how many posts and views I can manage for a dead thread in an effort to avoid doing a final draft of my sociology paper. 😎

That's the problem. It IS insulting at a religious level. And please be careful what you call facts. There is no way in hell Jesus Christ went to "call girls".

So what do you believe then? The widely adopted Catholic version that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute (in which case Jesus did 'hang out with' at least one prostitute), or the more obscure version that MM was some kind of disciple with her own gospel? And if you believe the second, do you then dismiss most of the Bible, as that was put together to support Catholic 3rd century ideas and ideals?

Were you there around 0-50 BC so you can give us an eyewitness account? Cause none of the stories in the NT are just that, all of them were put together from 'hear say' and 'let's make stuff up so it fits the Jewish Messiah stories better'.

Just because someone is befriended or has a relationship with a 'call girl' does not mean he regularly visits prostitutes himself. So he may very well be far less of a hypocrite than 99.9% of all Christians.
What does Jesus say about judging others again? Or don't you really care what Jesus says if it does not suit your purpose?

One of my Myers/Briggs personality type groups...this one an INFP group on Yahoo. It's kind of ugly right now but it should quiet down eventually. We really are mostly freaks on there though...a number of super high IQ, or super non-socially adjusted, or super alternative peeps flow in and out of that place and the INTP groups. Get's kind of fun to bounce between quantum physics, religion, and petting a cute bunny. 😎

It was implied in his explanation that Jesus Christ had sex with call girls. I am aware that Jesus had relationships (non-sexual) with several prostitutes. I'm not trying to twist around any words. Please read carefully before posting.

I'm pretty open to possibilities...as long as one of them isn't that the catholic church is a vessel of truth and goodness or that the bible is literal. Beyond that, it's all good.

if anyone out there insists on believing that the bible is 100% literal truth, I feel really bad for them.

Most stories in there are paraboles(sp?)

I would LOVE to take a course in school to figure out which parts of the bible are stories and which are more or less facts.

The only fact I know for certain is that Jesus died, was buried, and resurrected 3 days later. (the base that catholism is based on)

Many works of the bible was written by men inspired by the holy spirit. But to say if they are the fact or not...

I can't answer that.

There's one at WSU-vancouer, if they still offer it. I plan on taking it this fall. The Bible as Literature - Discerning fact from fiction. Should be interesting.

And do you have an eyewitness account of whether or not Jesus was more than just friends with her? There is a gospel by Mary Magdalene, but it was banished by the Catholic church as they didn't want women in any position of power. All the stories of her being a prostitute were added by them when putting together the NT. She may not have been a prostitute for all we know.

Besides, he didn't say 'Jesus had sex with her' or something. If you are a Christian you shouldn't believe in sex before marriage in the first place, and Jesus and Mary were not married as far as we know. So she might have been his 'girl friend', but no physical relationship would be allowed before marriage.

I just hope the teacher is not a charasmatic fundamentalist.

I met a girl who was like that.....

we ended up having nothing in common except for religion..and even then we had completely different opinions about it.

But that starts a whole other series of debates on the topic...like if he's going to obey social/religious customs he WOULD have been married, since nearly all Jewish men of that age were by custom.

You really need to learn how to read between the lines. I thought it was pretty damn clear. You do realize that Jesus was perfect in every way and did not commit one single sin in his entire life. That being said, pretty much nulifies any sexual encounters he had.

But that would not have fitted the messiah view which was adopted later, so they might have scrapped that.

The first gospel was written by a Roman Christian around 50BC who wrote it from the view of a persecuted group, and that never once mentioned Jesus being 'the Messiah'. The second was written not by a Christian, but by a die-hard Jew in Turkey who thought that that first account was not nearly Jewish enough, and in order to make Jesus more Jewish he interwove the Messiah story with stuff he literally copied from that first written gospel. From there it didn't suddenly become more of an eyewitness account, but more copying, beautifying stories and 'hear say'. The Catholic church collected a whole lot and made a selection which suited their purpose, ditching the MM gospel (which was found in Egypt) and a lot of others.

There has been a very good documentary made by a Catholic who wanted to trace back his religious roots about this, I think it was the BBC who broadcasted it around Christmas (but it may have been one of the other English TV stations).

That guy was shocked by what he found, however he used exactly the same reasoning as Jero at the end of the show, stating that 'although it clearly was not an eyewitness account, and the contents of the stories had been altered, he still believed the men who wrote it were infused with the holy spirit'.

Edit: fitten->fitted

Is marriage a sin nowadays?
I thought Christians and Jews alike are told to get married and procreate? Go forth and multiply and stuff?

Anyway, your believes are not mine. It is not a matter of 'realizing' something which you cannot prove, it is a matter of you wanting to believe it is so. I choose to rely on facts more than fiction, thank you very much.
