Best OCing ram under $150 for Athlon 64

CPU would prolly be a Athlon 64 x2 3800, with a goal of 2.6ghz. I'm prolly gonna go with the MSI K8-n unless there's a better board for OCing that you guys recommend. Newegg has alot of brand name 1gb packs under $150, help me pick:

OCZ DDR400 gold/titanium EL- roughly $150 for each pack (they sure have alot of varieties, is the gold still the best?)
Mushkin Redline DDR400-$152
Corsair XMS - $150

Which will likely give me DDR500 speeds? I dont really care about timings as long as its not slower than 3-3-3-10. Help me pick!

I'd stay away from the Gold and the Redline unless you're going to get a volt booster. My Gold will not go past 216 even with 3.2v had it up to 230 for a while but it took 3.5v Just something to keep in mind.

Damn, thats too much voltage for me, I don't wanna put more than 2.9v on my equipment.

ocz gold vx is designed to run at 3.2v, you can get ddr400 @ 2-2-2-8 with 3.2v. but, unless you have a dfi lanparty, you shouldnt get this. or mushkin redline. you should get this stuff its a bit over your price range, but overclocks very well.

If your not afraid of used memory, there are a few good deals on TCCD in your price range on the FS/FT forum. The stuff I saw there should do 275-300 HTT.

This is good stuff new: http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant...40555&Category_Code=Unbuffered_Mushkin

It's either TCCD or TCC5 on Brainpower PCB. Either way, it will OC very well. I have mine running 2.5-3-3-5 @ 2.8v @ DDR500. I have a crappy Winchester with a lame memory controller but I have memtested with success near DDR600 with looser timings.

m 🙂

Get you some patriot xblk. These are getting rare and are all TCCD as far as I know. Typically runs up to ddr600 speeds at 2.5-4-4-8 or better.
Try the forsale forums for used deals for as low as $140, or new here:

Actually got some of this at a deal from newegg for $153 shipped, but I got a bum pair. For some reason they were stable individually, but not when ran in dual-channel, so I sent them back for RMA (other tcc5 ram that runs ddr600 that doesn't have that issue on my board). So if you've got an epox 9nda3j, you might run into the same problem I did 🙂

Looks like a great deal for $160 from monach (no tax). Hows Patriot customer service, as good as corsair/OCZ?
