best notebook processor?

How do the Pentium M's compare to the mobile P4? What are the Mhz. equivalencies?

I read this somewhere on AT....
1.6 X Pentium M speed = Equivalent Mobile p4 speed...
that is...
a 1.4 Pentium M chip will perform close to a 1.4 X 1.6 = 2.2 GHz P4 M...

I have a NEC Versa E400 that uses P-IV 2.2GHz M, therefore, will this also be on par with those lower rated P-4 M CPU? Plus, mine has speedstep which will throttle CPU, thus, is this also similar with P-4 M CPU?

yeah the centrino isn't designed to be a desktop replacement but it is powerfull and pretty cool

the most powerfull P4 notebook proce would prob give the most performance tho in the long run although it will be larger and hotter

The actual speed conversions are not official. Intel is under a class action suit by a group who thinks that P4 procs are no better then a PIII. Until this is settled I don't believe Intel will be publishing any comparison work.

Then a Pentium M processor is a waste of money for you...

Get one of the P4/P4M laptops with all the bells and whistles ...

Since weight/battery life aint a consideration.. you can actually go in for stuff like the P4 3.06 Ghz HT Processor.... NO Pentium M will match that in performance..

Here's my perspective, since it's a desktop replacement I'd wait it out and see how the intial AMD64 solutions are priced. The previews that I've seen show the A64 notebooks with the ATI M9600 to be fast and have very good battery life thanks to Cool'n'Quiet technology.
