Are there any alternatives to Compaq's N400c (.89" thick)? I'm trying to find a national brand laptop, fully functional (no CE devices...), other than the Compaq with it's video issues. Looks like most of the name brands (Dell Inspiron, Sony Vaio, etc.) are all over an inch thick. Anyone out there have an ultra-lightweight that I haven't seen yet?

Right now my company uses the Compaq Armada M300 as our standard ultra portable. We thought about the N400 but I am guessing you main obstacle is our main obstacle, the sucker is expensive as hell. The M300 is not bad and only about 1/2 the cost for very similar specs. Check it out.

That's not a very nice thing to say, Nate....

The N400c is the replacement for the M300. The Armada line is going away in favor of the new EVO naming standard. Unfortunately, I haven't been successful in finding the M300, but I wouldn't mind getting my hands on the N200...

Toshiba doesn't have the best service record out there, so I'd prefer to stay away from them. It doesn't absolutely have to be under 1", but that's what I'm looking for. And you couldn't pay me enough to bring a Mac into the environment...

I"m currently looking for a new lappy for my sis. I've had bad experiences with Sony. Poor quality construction. Looking towards IBM or another Dell (although I'm not sure how happy she would be with another Dell, her current one has crapped out on her a couple times).

Plus I don't want to spend another $2K for a lappy. Any suggestions? Most important is weight and a 14" screen. Possible DVD played as well.

I really like the ultra-portable Sony Vaio. They're tiny and don't have much extras, but they're really light, and easy to move around
