Hopefully someone name drops a good oldschool chinese/japanese movie. I've seen Seven Samurai, Yojimbo and that other movie where Mifune plays the bodyguard but hopefully someone will name drop some other good Japanese movies... or any international movies.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly 🙂

EDIT: I second Oldboy - violent and disturbing but very well done. I thought The Host (Gwoemul) was pretty good. See it before the butchered American remake comes out.

Ong Bak. Ong Bak, Ong Bak, Ong Bak. Don't waste your time with other movies. Do any of the above movies have...

1. Spin-kicks with more than 720 degrees of rotation? No.
2. People running on other people? No!
3. Double-fisted punches? No!
4. F*CKING FLAMING KICKS TO THE FACE? NO!

Ong Bak is the only movie you ever need to see. It just kicks your ass.

I have a short list and after purging the obvious USA and co-production ones and seperating others which were shot entirely in English:

Ong Bak and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon are also awesome movies.

Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (Cinema Paradiso) -- contains my favourite movie scene
Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain (Amélie)
Cidade de Deus (City of God)

Some good chinese movies:

Yi Yi
Raise the Red Lantern
To Live
Red Sorghum
In the Mood for Love
Once Upon a Time in China
Eat Drink Man Woman
Police Story
Hard Boiled
God of Gambling
Shaolin Soccer
Kung Fu Hustle
God of Cookery

ya, Infernal Affair I and III are good... kinda like the way Matrix I and III are. Matrix I was revolutionary, and Matrix III is just a mind fukk kinda like IA III was

I am NOT saying Infernal Affair and Matrix II was a "filler." They are good to their own rights. Matrix II was a prerequiste to understand what's going on between I and III. Infernal Affairs II was kinda on it's own, with a hint of Godfather influences.

Six Strong Guys (or Six Strong Men can't remember)
Marebito

To Live (seconding Excelsior on that)
A Better Tomorrow
Beijing Bicycle
Akira
Ghost in the Shell 1 & 2
Sunshine (UK scifi movie that was just released)
Anything with Tony Ja
Ghost of Mae Nak (WILL TERRIFY YOU!)
Infection
Suicide Club (AMAZING MOVIE - must watch)
Izo (May be strange to you but some like it - hard to follow at times)
2009: Lost Memories
Shiri
J.S.A. (Joint Security Area)
Sex is Zero (Korean movie - may be to hard to find but its a funnier Korean version of the premise of American Pie)
Night Watch is good (someone already mentioned this)
Kromartie High
Running on Karma
