I figured it out, it's made by Samsung... well, at least that's the only one that comes with a transmitter. You can buy them separately. Don't know if you saw my last post, but I bought a Zen 30 GB from newegg just now... should be here in a few days... if you want, send me a PM now to remind me and I'll let you know how I like it when I get it later this week.

Want the best sound quality? Zen... want the worst? Ipod! My friend is getting the Rio Karma and he's a quality buff too, I'm waiting to see if it passes the test for him. He liked the Karma since it was smaller and had a decent playback time, unlike the Ipod.

Just listening to a high bitrate MP3, the Ipod sounds like my friend's cheapo 1st gen Archos Jukebox. Compared to the Zen 20G that I gave to my Dad as a gift... even having the $$, Ipod isn't for everyone.

If you want ultimate bling, the Archos AV380 - http://www.archos.com/products/prw_500570.html
The ability to playback full divx files and a big LCD with over 80GB of storage. My friend managed to find an AV320 for $450. Sound quality is good though I'd like to compare it to the Zen for reference on some of my more demanding VBR jazz MP3s.

English?

Have you ever owned one btw? If not I submit that you have no idea what you're talking about. I consider my 3rd gen 15 gig possible the best $380 I ever spent.

Don't you think that these hard drive based mp3 players are really large and kinda ackward.

I was reading in the August Maximum PC to look out for a new generation of miniature hdd devices to be coming within a few months. Too late and too tired to reference it 🙂

Good God those things are cool! Too bad they're so expensive I can never have one 🙁

They're large? What do you use? They're a hell of a lot smaller than my CD player... plus I'll be able to carry all 180 of my CD's in my pocket 😀

Ummm....compared to what? They're MUCH smaller than CD players. Sure, they're bigger than the Flash mp3 players, but they're also got a million times the storage capacity.

I love my Nomad Zen, even if it is bigger than the iPod, it's not like I get a hernia lifting the thing. It's awesome, especially with a good pair of headphones.

The Karma is supposed to have excellent SQ and a very powerful amp for a portable device.

Here's a good comparison of many of the available HD players, with individual reviews as well:

Here's a review of the Karma with lots of pics:
