In the next few weeks I will be getting a DSL connection and will be needing a NIC card to use it and was wondering what you guys suggest as the best brand and model for the connection. Thanks! :)

Get a PCI one - ISA ones are a mess.

I'm using the Kingston NIC 10 mbps NIC that SWBell provided for me, works fine. I've had good results with Linksys, Netgear, and SMC. No need to spend the extra $ for 3com or Intel, IMO.

Netgear is picky about weird bus timings (from oc'ing), SMC's tend to suck, so I'd say go with Linksys, unless you want smooth like butta, then get Intel.

Get a Intel. I'm running Server NICs and work great. Get the Intel 10/100+S PRO Management PCI adapters.

Unless you are really paranoid that something may break down, just get just about any brand, except the ones that seem like they haven't existed for like a year. Linksys, SMC, D-Link, Intel, 3Com, Netgear, they are all good. I don't know if ISA or PCI really matters, I have had no trouble with both of them in numerous systems. You don't need a fast NIC (100Mbps) since this is only for a DSL connection, so 10Mbps should be ok. I would say the max you should spend is about 18 dollars.

Even the COMPUSA PCI 10mb card will perform nicely for your DSL. <$10.

There are lots of good choices, as others have pointed out. My favorites:

1) Intel
2) 3Com
3) Netgear
4) Linksys

I have the 3COM 10/100 with the 3DES 168 bit encryption. Great card, and if you can get it cheap (Cost around $90, my uncle works over at a DSL company and was able to get me one for free) it's a really good buy.

I've also had no problems with Linksys. :)

Yeah, you only need a 10Mbps card, but get a 10/100 card so it can pull double duty if you want to use it later. The don't cost that much more... I wouldn't get an Intel or 3Com card, they just cost too much... Get a SMC, Linksys, or DLink 10/100 Card, they are ~$20.

Usually your DSL provider will give you a NIC as a part of the package. If you must know I use an SMC Etherpower II PCI 10/100 NIC. I love its super small size.
